F-29 Retaliator Atari ST 1989 Digital Image Design/Ocean Software Submitted by @pxa.ca In my memory, this was kind of the Ace Combat of its day. Not as arcadey as After Burner, but nothing close to a sim either. Not too many remember it, but it's worth a play in context of its time.

Hyper 3-D Pinball DOS 1995 NMS Software/Virgin Interactive Entertainment Submitted by @pxa.ca Simplistic, but oddly compelling box art. This was a very good 90s digital pinball pack that gets overlooked compared to other greats of the time. But has great design and feel. Shouldn't be missed!

Dark Reign: The Future of War Windows 1997 Auran/Activision GOG Submitted by @pxa.ca Activision's attempt to compete with Command & Conquer, this takes place in a distant future and follows a group of rebels who survived a devastating civil war. Had some unique systems and was a well received RTS.

King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne DOS 1987 Sierra On-Line GOG Submitted by @pxa.ca The sequel to the Roberta Williams game that started Sierra's empire. Didn't just have moon logic, but was also possible to soft lock yourself. But her worlds were something untold many got lost in.

Police Quest 2: The Vengeance DOS 1988 Sierra On-Line GOG | Steam Submitted by @pxa.ca The first game on Sierra's next-gen engine, this took PQ to a new level of fidelity and depth, with Jesse Bains back to take his revenge. Still full of moon logic, but blew people away who first saw it.

Jones in the Fast Lane DOS 1991 Sierra On-Line Floppy Disk Version In Browser Submitted by @pxa.ca Top tier DOS weirdness. A digital board game kind of like The Game of Life, but with some weird humour in it. Played this a TON in high school. The CD-ROM version adds voice acting too.

Heart of China DOS 1992 Dynamix/Sierra On-Line GOG Submitted by @pxa.ca One of a pair of unique graphical adventures from Dynamix, this takes place in 1930s Asia. Graphics were state of the art for the time, plus it had an early Telltale-style choices matter system. I need to replay this one.

Descent II DOS 1996 Volition/Interplay Productions GOG | Steam Submitted by @pxa.ca The first true 6 Degrees of Freedom shooter. Was revolutionary in its day and is still well regarded by some, but it's also brutally hard, cheap and difficult to control. It still stands out though!

Descent: Freespace - The Great War Windows 1998 Volition/Interplay Productions GOG | Steam Submitted by Apocalypse Descent in name only really, but this was Volition's attempt to compete with Wing Commander and it did in many ways. Played great and had a cool universe, though not as rich as WC.

The Simpsons: Hit & Run Windows 2003 Radical Entertainment/Vivendi Universal Games Submitted by @saltedslug.net Most would argue this as the best Simpsons game. Heavily inspired by GTA 3 and involving many of the writers and cast, it's a light-heared take on open world carnage. GOG needs this!

Grand Theft Auto III Windows 2002 Rockstar Games/Take-Two Interactive Submitted by @adamzwakk.com Didn't start here but for most, it was their first. Saved Take-Two and made them a powerhouse. Most remembered on PS2, but the PC version was also a solid port in an era where that wasn't guaranteed.

Battlefield: 1942 Windows 2002 DICE/Electronic Arts Submitted by @adamzwakk.com The start of the series! It was janky and pushed any machine at the time to it's limit, but the size and scale of the battles were like nothing else before it. Played a lot of this back then, very poorly.

Reader Rabbit 3 Windows 1993 The Learning Company Submitted by @adamzwakk.com My Mom ran an elementary school library when I was in high school and I think this was the entry I used to see the kids playing all the time. They loved these TLC titles more than most of the other stuff they had.

SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition Windows 2003 Maxis/Electronic Arts GOG What many consider the last proper good SimCity game. This version also included the expansion. I had an ATI card at this time, which had major issues with this game at launch so I never really played it much. Miss you Maxis. 😢

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Deluxe Edition Windows 2003 2015, Inc./Electronic Arts Submitted by @adamzwakk.com GOG EA's Call of Duty competition, which traded blows with it for a while. I've never played this, but always meant to. I've heard parts of it still hold up well today.

Falcon 4.0 Windows 1998 MicroProse Submitted by GarageBay9 The harddest core military flight sim at the time. Some versions came with a full flight manual in a binder. Brutally hard, but state of the art. It was actually rereleased and updated for several years by another dev and publisher.

New addition from @saltedslug.net: Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel Windows 1996 Micro Forté/Interplay Productions A cool spin-off that took Fallout's turn-based combat and made a whole game around that. Was very buggy (still is I think), but a great idea that people love. Buy on GOG here!
