Sad to hear that the unassuming and beautiful actor Damien Thomas has died, best known for playing the cunning Father Alvito in the original Shogun and suave wheeler-dealer in Tenko. I got to know him pretty well and he was a completely lovely guy.

Sad to hear that Charles Kay has died. I was lucky enough to spend a day with him and Gayle Hunnicutt - interviewing them about their roles in Fall of Eagles. He was generous, kind-hearted and mischievous too. Brilliant in I Claudius, Fortunes of War and Edge of Darkness too.

Spent a hugely enjoyable 80 minutes watching a 1968 Thames TV adaptation of Uncle Silas starring Lucy Fleming (from #Survivors). Made 56 years ago (!) but fast-paced, well acted and mostly filmed on location. Highly recommended! youtu.be/VfBfF9_tiSo?...

Watched the unspeakably terrible Survivors episode The Witch (05/05/76) last night without warning the boyf about it. I’d forgotten how bad it was - disjointed, overacted, bizarre. Not quite enough to put me off my current Survivors book project but bloody hell!
