Trombiculid life cycle and stylostome-mediated feeding. The life cycle comprises free-living soil stages and a single parasitic larval stage. The chigger injects saliva to digest host tissues, and the saliva solidifies with host exudates to form a hardened feeding tube, the stylostome.

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infects 60%–90% of the population worldwide. In #JVirology, researchers show that the HCMV-encoded protein UL22A is necessary for reactivation from latency in CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells and in a humanized mouse model. asm.social/32g
