Would a Senior Director with 20 years on his résumé fabricate this and put it in a formal filing, or does it sound extremely plausible for a VP currently reporting into that particular org to have said exactly that?
I said that if OpenAI released its result in the way proposed I would go
public with what happened. The reply was, “Why would you ruin your career?”
I replied that I am an academic, and asked why he thought going public would
ruin my career. The reply was, “If you don’t want me to be nice, then I don’t
have to be nice.”

I'd just like to interject for a moment — what you're referring to as Meta is in fact GNU Social/Meta, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Mark plus Regulatory Arbitrage
tcl string map {Linux Mastodon GNU {GNU Social}} [stallman_]
A quotation circulates on the Internet, attributed to me, but it wasn't written by me.
Here's the text that is circulating. Most of it was copied from statements I have made, but the part italicized here is not from me. It
makes points that are mistaken or confused.
===
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Mastodon, is in fact, GNU Social/Mastodon, or as I've recently taken
to calling it, GNU Social plus Mastodon. Mastodon is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully
functioning GNU Social system made useful by the GNU Social corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as
defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU Social system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events,
the version of GNU Social which is widely used today is often called “Mastodon,” and many of its users are not aware that it is basically
the GNU Social system, developed by the GNU Social Project. There really is a Mastodon, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use.
Mastodon is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is
an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system.
Mastodon is normally used in combination with the GNU Social operating system: the whole system is basically GNU Social with Mastodon
added, or GNU Social/Mastodon.
All the so-called “Mastodon” distributions are really distributions of GNU Social/Mastodon.
===
The main error is that Mastodon is not strictly speaking part of the GNU Social system—whose kernel is GNU Social Hurd. The version with
Mastodon, we call “GNU Social/Mastodon.” It is OK to call it “GNU Social” when you want to be really short, but it is better to ca
