I live in one of the least populated regions in Canada, in a settlement with no town council of any sort. Volunteers run this place and they did a bang-up job of organizing this first day of advance voting at our Rec Centre. Pee Pee is doomed.

I cannot wait for this election to be over. The things my boys tell me about their Windsor/Sarnià friends and their love for PP is... unsettling. Their union is now encouraging my kids to vote Conservative. I think, I hope, I raised them well enough to just do the right fucking thing here.

I'm à volunteer librarian working today in our precious Gold Rush era courthouse+library. The library is where gold claims were processed, it is a weird feeling standing behind that old desk, knowing that fortunes were staked here. It was quiet today, it's cold. So, Pierre Berton it is. Was watching Americans today discussing how to move to Canada. One thing stood out - the comments saying "But they all live along the border with us, the rest of the country is uninhabitable!" and I'm just sitting up here in the Yukon staring at my mountain, all fat and sassy and full of cheese.

Americans up here need to travel into Canada/the Yukon for necessities. I also must drive 3 hours to Whitehorse for these necessities. The difference is that I don't need to leave my country to get a cavity filled. Maybe Russia will step in to "fill the gap"?

The 1898 Klondike Gold Rush was caused by the discovery of gold in Pine Creek. This is where the creek flows out into Atlin Lake. To the south (as camera pans left) is the Llewellyn Glacier. Our drinking water comes from this glacier-fed lake. This is Canada, the true north, strong and free!

Leaving behind well-ordered Ontario gardens for a life of foraging wasn't an easy transition. But our mountainside cabin is on land carpeted by arnica, wild roses, Labrador tea, and fireweed. All make their way into my apothecary goods. I can barely keep up with the demand for arnica, but I try!
