The pseudo environmentalists were so arrogant they staged an anti-HS2 'environmental' protest on Netherstowe Lane between Curborough Sprint Course (race track), Midland Go karting and a major supermarkets logistics depot. Facilitated by their NIMBY MP's. You can have 4,000 miles of road network in Staffordshire and countless logistics depots e.g. Fradley nr Lichfield where warehouses have 40 lorry bays but a twin track rail line that involves moving 5 holes of Whittington Golf course is a step too far

Thank you! I work in Burton a fair bit but I'm always in the car so it was nice to get a train and be able to have a beer, although it takes ages because you have to go via Derby or Stafford & then Tamworth.

I think out of order toilets & pongy carriages are part of Cross Country's franchise agreement, along with surly, over stressed train managers looking to surcharge people who've inadvertently boarded the wrong train because it came in so late they accidentally thought it was their train

Crikey! Even with average life expectancy for a male in The UK reaching 79.1 years I never expected to see 5 consecutive Cross Country Trains scheduled to depart on time. What a time to be alive! (Burton station is managed by EMR but is only served by Cross Country in the privatisation debacle).

It's a great pub town. I stopped at The Travelodge which is really central. I've used The Premier Inn previously which is a bit nicer but it's a mile walk past all the logistics warehouses and it feels like 5 miles

Yes, I'm lucky enough to be able to visit York & Leeds once a month and it's usually available e.g. Last Drop, Colliergate but down here it's certainly an exotic find

In the age of generic, battleship grey pubs what a standout The Elms Inn, Burton is. Beautiful, natural wood interior, bench seating in the bay windows. The Bass is good but this afternoon they've Theakstons Old Peculiar from the wood. Smooth, rich (but not excessively tannic) Superb.

Beautiful isn't it? They have bench seating in the bay windows which encourages people to sit together and get chatting. I think it was a former house. The pub has changed counties too. This side of the Trent was Derbyshire until the 1880's when it was incorporated into Staffs

The mint condition almost unused Giant Roam 2 bike has been collected from S Derbys (£200). Time for a celebratory Old Peculiar from The Wood at The Elms Inn Burton. Despite train cancellations the inconvenience more than offset by walking up the no expense spared iconic new station car park stairs

That's a brilliant scheme. We are lucky enough to be able to head over to the brewery sometimes and there are good cycling routes nearby too. It takes ages by public transport though
