The chap seems to have the exact same sort of aggressive derangement that Glinner does, of believing every target of his obvious bigotries is a pervert, and seems to have no ability whatsoever to even make an attempt of civility. There’s probably no hope of him being deprogrammed from this.

Cassie isn’t just witchy a.f… she’s a giantess! And um, wow, thanks Lilly!

There’s any number of reasons to be grateful for the life of someone who did exceptionally well for herself and didn’t let it go to her head, but became one of the world’s best-known philanthropists. An example to us all, even if I hadn’t benefitted from one of her generous contributions to society.

My thoughts on the stories and their necessity at the current time, if you don’t wish to click through to the Patreon link.
First Day, and other stories
Catherine Cowie

The reaction to First Day was quite encouraging, the succeeding stories a little underwhelming, if I’m to be honest, and the decision to write the third story, although I’m happy with how it turned out, was incredibly fraught and I’m still reeling with how unpleasant the process ended up being, because it was a story where I needed to do more research and I badly miscalculated everything.

First Day was meant to be a one-shot, however it was easy to see upon reflection that a variety of related, but different stories in that incredibly hostile environment could flow on. And the titles are just placeholders for the ‘reading’ order, but you can read them in any order you like; or not read some stories if you choose. The fourth story in particular is possibly the most gruelling, because it unflinchingly describes a trans girl’s suffering, mental breakdown, and self-destruction.

I feel so burned out, in particular from the writing of the third story (it was written last—I date my works, so it’s fairly obvious to see that the fourth and fifth stories were bumped ahead in the writing schedule) that subsequent stories, for which I had nothing more than working titles following the cardinal number theme—Sixth Sense, Seventh Heaven—probably will not be written. But who knows? Sometimes the words flow, and I’d be a fool not to follow where they take me.About the underlying scenario

It was not hard to imagine one of the many schools in the United Kingdom receiving the Department of Education’s ‘Keep [cis] Children Safe In Education’ guidance, which was issued just a month or two ago, and during the break before the 2026/27 academic year, for some gender-critical zealot in the senior administration to implement the recommendations in an allegedly ‘consistent’ manner that would grossly humiliate trans students and strip them of their dignity.

The guidance explains that some recommendations are optional, and a school under the DoE’s management or oversight may have some leeway in how they implement the requirements. Other elements of the guidance are mandatory, and the school must implement the guidance: no leeway, no baulking at the rules, no compromise.

One of those mandatory items is restrictions on trans students using toilets, and similarly their access to changing rooms for sports. So it seems quite possible for a student like the fictional Jenny Martin, who’d been regarded as a girl for multiple years by a (previously) caring school that allowed her to socially transition in some degree of privacy (if not complete stealth), to now be forced to use male toilets, effectively outing her as transgender to the entire student body.

I cannot imagine that going well for any trans student to whom that outing is going to forcibly happen, when school resumes next month.
Trans people in the United Kingdom are being stripped of their basic human rights to privacy by these ghastly policies and guidance; not merely the KCSIE guidance for schools, but the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s recent Code of Practice is an egregious infringement on trans people’s ability to have a social life on par with cisgender people. And the NHS is already being threatened by billionaire-bankrolled lawfare for doing anything to accommodate trans people.

Trans people generally want a quiet life, with decent privacy, which is increasingly incompatible with an authoritarian-leaning nation state that is enabling bullying vigilante toilet police who feel they’ve been given licence by the most transphobic Westminster government yet seen, abetted by a murderous gutter press, to harass and assault people who they believe are ‘in the wrong place’. And they never apologise when they inevitably target people the ‘wrong’ people, because all of this is done to enact gender violence on everyone who might think of stepping out of line.

This collection of stories therefore may expand. I have one idea for another story but am not inclined to write it: the conditions at the school are sufficiently hostile that any student who comes to the realisation that they’re trans, would not want to come out, and perhaps suffer the fate of Jenny Martin. This is why the current kickback against trans people in the UK not only resembles the previous Section 28 repression of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and trans people; in some ways, it exceeds that level of violence.

As ACT UP told us many, many years ago: Silence Equals Death.

One of the stories reveals that there’s students at the school who are too fearful to come out. That too is part of the reality of the United Kingdom at this point in time.
I feel I’m slightly privileged to be writing half a world away, so these stories—just a little short of thirty thousand words—can be easily dismissed as the misguided work of someone who doesn’t have their finger on the pulse, who knows nothing of the daily reality of students in the United Kingdom, who is ignorant of how comprehensive schools work, and whose plots and narratives are unnecessarily alarmist.

And I’d welcome criticism if I have been alarmist, once the academic year begins.

My fear is that I’ve not reached anywhere near where the mark will be.

I especially didn’t want to write a story in this setting that had an ending like Amy Pollard’s (suicide) or Brianna Ghey’s (murder). But given the ferocity with which the United Kingdom continues to hound people to death, I don’t believe I’m really so off the mark—but time will tell.

The last two stories in the collection will be freely available on 21 and 28 August, so you don’t need to buy this—but I could certainly do with your support, if you would like to buy it.

“—by our Blessed Lady of Perpetual Vaginismus, yes,” Emma cut him off. “So you know that we’ll be looking to do weekly injections. Can you cope with three or four trans girls of varying levels of stealthiness dropping in on you on a weekly basis?”
“I’ll make it work,” Jones said. “So this means the vials will effectively be split amongst four?”
“We want you to keep ahold of them. If the NHS gets wind that we’re DIY-ing they’ll possibly do some unpleasant things to search out who is responsible. That’s why it can’t be one of us, one of the trans students, who is importing this.”
“Okay. Does this mean I should delete all of the emails we’ve exchanged?”
“Yes. You should start practicing immaculate opsec for Phase 2, if you weren’t already. Keep copies of the PDFs, though.”
“It’s okay, I was able to source where those came from in the first place. I don’t need the protected copies you sent.”

There’s no way Indira saying “we unfortunately /do/ get some distasteful men, who need to be sent away for their own good” would be an allusion to someone washing out. That’s unpossible
The end of one scene, and the beginning of another:

The woman produced a mobile phone, and began furiously typing into it, with the screen slightly raised to hide its face from Stefan’s sight. “I’m asking a friend to come down here, who may be able to help us get to the bottom of this problem.”
“Oh good,” Stefan said with relief. “I was wondering if it was a problem that I know Melissa lived here, and who she was before she came here.”
“Oh no, not at all,” the woman said, whose face had now turned to a reassuring, friendly expression and a wide smile. “This is a women’s dorm, and we unfortunately do get some distasteful men, who need to be sent away for their own good.”
Stefan nodded, believing himself to have been judged as not being in that category. “Oh! I understand, it must be awful to deal with. I hope I didn’t give you that impression.”
The South Asian woman gave him a grin. “No! You’re no problem at all, Stefan.”
“Uh, just Stef will do—Melissa knows me as Stef,” Stefan said and returning her smile, he felt slightly more positive that he was now on the right track.
“Thanks Stef,” the woman said, and at that moment another woman, tall with long black hair, entered from the adjacent room which appeared to be a large, well-furnished dining hall.
Stef looked in her direction, and then felt something touch the front of his shirt. The next thing he knew he was crumpling in pain, gurgling and twitching as his body started convulsing and the room lurched sideways around him.
He soon realised, after he hit the floor, that it was him that had revolved about ninety degrees, and his grip on his senses began to slip.

(change of scene)

Words, as he is carried away
“Melissa”
“not just her”
Steps, his feet dragging as the strong woman and another pull him along
“security”
“clearly knows more than he’s said so far”
Wait, no more stairs
“cell one is empty”
More of those weird locks
Dumped on a bed

There’s some wonderful pictures of bilateral gynandromorphism in birds particularly, and butterflies. It’s wonderful seeing asymmetries occasionally in mammalian faces, too, where patterning results in two different masks (:
A cat with ginger patterning and a goldeneye down the right-hand-side of its face, while the left-hand-side is a black cat patterning with a blue eye. The division between the two genetic patterning being expressed runs directly down the centreline of the cat’s face.

And here’s why. It’s all the regressive policies of Starmer, PLUS the EHRC code of practice PLUS the ‘Keep [cis, not trans] Children Safe In Education’ guidance PLUS the NHS segregating trans people from single sex wards with no sign of an end to this discrimination. Down with the UK.

Another short story set in the same near-future world as First Day, with a high school largely indifferent to the distress of trans students. A summary and sample are on AO3, where it will be published in full on 21 August. archiveofourown.org/collections/...
Up the stairwell just off the main corridor she rushed, to the balcony that looked down on one of the central examination spaces, a large hall that often was also used for staged drama with its raised platform at one end. She quickly paced alongside the balcony in search of Mr Crowden’s room. It was right at the end, where the U-shaped corridor over the hall made a left-hand turn. She pulled the door aside, and hurried in: safety at last.
Except, an unfamiliar teacher peered at her from the front desk set aside for the teacher; he was clearly not Mr Crowden. But it was confusing: she was in the right room, because amongst the students already present, she could see Anna and Lily, looking at her, very obviously worried.
And then her world started to collapse.

(The full work will be published on AO3 on 21 August 2026.)

Russell didn’t exactly like the concentration on male-only sports, but the school had apparently drawn an incredibly hard line against mixed-sex sports over the objections of the PE teachers, and there were rumours the admin had speculatively looked at finding new teachers who made fewer objections and bent fewer rules.
There was also the spicy rumour that the week Mr Pellicott had suggested Emma play hockey with the boys, she had made it abundantly clear that anyone so pants-wettingly incompetent as to supply her with a hockey stick and then send her out to play on the hockey field against boys would need to call for several ambulances before the afternoon was out. And probably a police car as well.

Truth. There was a cartoon I saw in around 2014 documenting two years on HRT as a trans girl (which apart from one line about being made homeless, matched a lot of what my feelings and experiences at the time were like), charting how things developed over that time. And it’s not better now, really.
A three-frame cartoon: an enby-looking person with the legend ‘Starting Transition’ beside them says “It’s 2012, people are so open minded. We are ALL people after all.”

Below, beside the legend ‘1 year HRT’ the same person, shivering in a tank top, says, “I’ve been sexually harassed, stalked, been told ‘not a real woman’, lost most of my friends, and almost ended up homeless… but things… ok…”

Below, beside the legend ‘2 years HRT’ a trans girl with pigtails, a tattoo on one arm, and a sour expression on her face flips the bird towards the viewer.

This is NOT a story for trans people to read. I want cis people with a jot of empathy to read this, to imagine the kind of unimaginable cruelty that school children in the UK will likely have to deal with on a daily basis, just over a month from now.
A dedication: For all victims of sadistic transphobic cruelty, in every place, and in every time

The opening six paragraphs of the story, ‘First Day’:

Emma had to wear the ill-fitting shirt with the buttons on the wrong side, but there was no way she was not going to wear a bra underneath; the alternative was her displaying headlights under her blazer all day. Nevertheless, she didn’t tell Mum about concealing the skirt in her school bag when she left home for the short walk to the station.

First day of her second year of high school. Also, the first day of her futile attempts at resistance.

It would be especially futile, because she couldn’t rely on Mum as a backstop. Her reaction, after the meeting where the new school policies had been outlined, had been maybe they’re right and it’s time for you to accept who you really are. But Emma already knew who she was.

When she reached the station, the platform was relatively empty, so she walked to the sparsely populated far end, pulled the skirt out and over her trousers; then with the skirt in place, she could undo her belt; take off her shoes and socks, pull down her trousers underneath the skirt revealing her stockings.

She ignored the sneers of the student waiting nearby, also wearing a CHS blazer, as she bent down to tie her shoelaces again.

The train pulled to as she finished tying the bows, and she quickly found a standing only perch in the early morning crush. Three stops to her school.

Strict Scrutiny’s emergency episode covers the terrible decisions in two cases concerning the US Fourteenth Amendment. It would have been nice to address the unfortunate transphobia that even managed to get into the WV v BPJ dissents, but there was a lot to cover. www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7p4...
A comment by me under the video, referring to the birthright citizenship case *and* the postal voting case that was also decided days earlier. Both cases were one vote away from failing into horrifying bad decisions. Both cases had the same four judicial terrorists.

@Xanthe_Cat
Elie Mystal eviscerated the illogic of Alito’s dissent in Watson v RNC but from my perspective (in a foreign country that has postal voting with late returns admissible if posted on time for OVER A CENTURY without this ever causing an issue!) this, like many other cases in this term, should have been a no-brainer that in a sane, functional democracy with a sane, functional Supreme Court, would have been decided 9–0. Instead you had three other judicial terrorists signing on to Alito’s dissent in the 5–4 decision. (And you may draw the conclusion about both the insanity and dysfunctionality that saw four votes being garnered.)

Similar considerations about sane democracies and justices should have applied to a case about the Fourteenth Amendment meaning what it says, and again the same four sided against the Constitution. I don’t think you can underscore more plainly that you don’t have a functional democracy there any more. The executive branch under the current incumbent is a criminal enterprise for the guy’s own self-enrichment, and that of his cronies. The legislative branch has been barely functional with the House stalled for many days at a time completely unable to do the business of the Congress. And the Judicial branch has long been corrupted by political actors who use the Supreme Court’s mantle (its reputation surely in tatters, the Roberts court likely to replace the Taney court in infamy) for making political decisions, rather than properly reasoned legal decisions.

You’ve got a five alarm fire there. Court reform has to happen, because a corrupt court will only encourage a corrupt Congress and a corrupt President. It’s plain to see from the opposite side of Pacific.

Elsewhere I ranted about my own ‘general inherent biological advantage’. LOL. Remember this applies to any sport and in a sufficiently discriminatory and cruel environment, prevents something as simple as a trans girl playing games with their friends.
Being trans can be such a mindfuck in a lot of ways.
I keep thinking about the stupid paranoia about trans women playing sports.
Like, do people really think every trans woman is a six-foot-four, three hundred pound linebacker?
I never got to play much sports as a kid, because even as a boy-shaped object, I was the worst at sports of all of my peers. Throughout all of primary school, and most of high school (I had an unwanted growth spurt around year 11 at the age of 16). I have memories of always finishing last even in the things that were taught co-ed, like athletics.
Of course, if I were growing up today and had an inkling I was trans, then I’d be prohibited from playing even though I was the most inept, incapable sports player.
Apparently having the least capable kid playing against girls would be unfair to someone, yada yada yada, reality of immutable biological sex blah blah blah.
Sports carnival days were always a torture for me, because the entire school would decamp to the local swimming pool or the athletics field, and I would have absolutely nothing to do, because you’re supposed to be there to support your ‘team’, that I was never willingly a part of, that I never had the slightest chance of ever representing, and doing something to stave off the colossal boredom like reading would be officially banned.
I think in one year of primary school they decided that everyone had to compete in one athletic event as a minimum, so I have memories of coming last in the triple jump at one of the athletics carnival days. That didn’t apply to the swimming carnivals, since I [was] sufficiently dyspraxic that I never learned to swim, and I found the whole thing the most tedious waste of time ever. The Olympic motto is ‘citius, altius, fortius’ but what if you’re personally ‘tardissimus, infimus, irfirmissimus’ (slowest, least, weakest)?
I also had childhood asthma, and for most of my years in primary school salbutamol inhalers like Ventolin weren’t yet available as pharmaceutical medicine.
I invite you to imagine what it would be like to try playing sports in primary school without access to an asthma relief inhaler.
I remember being somewhere between 9 and 11, and learning that my cousin had access to this new medicine. Up till that point, I just had to sit somewhere and wheeze away untreated, unless things got so bad that I had to be taken to hospital and put on a nebuliser.
If that sounds horrendous—yes, it was.

But now the closest point of contact has passed

The giddy acceleration of our proximity gives way to the climb back towards infinity

And then you are gone, into the endless darkness

Our mutual trajectories only slightly altered by our near contact

Without really knowing what he was doing, he undid and threw off his shirt and suit trousers back into the main room of the little suite. Then he picked up his electric razor, and clicked out the sideburn trimmer on the back, switched on the razor, and started shaving away his goatee.

After several minutes he used the main razors to get rid of the remaining stubble, and then there he was, fresh-faced. He’d not been clean shaven for several years, and the difference to his looks was a little striking; it wasn’t as if something was now intrinsically missing, just that his features re-harmonised differently.

He looked down at his arms and chest; he wasn’t overly hairy like some men, but he’d always had a quiet distaste for it, especially the light downy covering on the back of his hands and the first joints of his fingers, which were a dark brown; again with the trimmer he began lightly removing most of the fur from his fingers, hands, wrist, then up to his elbow; swapped the razor to his other hand and began on the other arm.

Now that had made him look a lot more boyish and younger. There were also the few wisps on his chest that had started growing these last few years, which were also easily enough shaved away; for the moment he ignored his legs and his armpits, and just contemplated the figure in the mirror.

Experimentally, he put his hands on his chest, and slightly pushed down on his nipples from each side towards his breastbone, to see whether there was enough body fat under there to simulate the appearance of cleavage.

He only just saw a tiny pair of curves appear in the mirror.

The titles write themselves
1970s Doctor Who title credits.
In the Della Robbia font we read,

“The one where Tom gives The Creature From the Pit a blow job”My, what a proboscis! What on Gallifrey are you trying to do that large green blob, oh Doctor?

No one looks for my counsel

No one considers my wisdom

I am a broken vessel

Too much pain flows out from the cracks in my person

No one seeks out sap from the poisoned tree

My best friend leads her own life far away

And my other friends are scattered to the four winds

My chosen one reads others’ books

Since mine are not always to her liking

But who else do I have to share this life, this crushed future, this crabbed hope

For example, this is just embarrassing: it’s hate the sin / love the sinner rhetoric in a human rights document. It’s totally okay and fine and dandy to hold transphobic or homophobic views, just so long as you don’t display animus. Is this for real? You have to be kidding us, EHRC.
4.100 Examples of stereotypes in relation to religion or belief are that persons who hold or manifest certain gender-critical beliefs necessarily have negative attitudes towards trans people, or that persons who hold or manifest the belief that same-sex sexual activity is sinful necessarily have negative attitudes towards gay people. The judgment explains that: "it may be that some persons who hold / manifest such beliefs have such animus, but it is stereotyping to assume that all do.' [footnote 32]

Stuff I don’t need anymore: 40 video cassettes of Doctor Who recorded in the nineties and noughties, from UKTV broadcasts on cable and ABC free to air. Oldest, The Sensorites; newest: The Next Doctor. Now junk
As per the post, 40 VHS cassettes.

The post upthread, on the iOS app running on my desktop. It’s sort of crap but functional.

So on my desktop I’ve been locked out of bsky since yesterday. Refreshing my login credentials — which do expire from time to time — has not helped. Anyone know what this issue is? Usual things like clearing caches etc. #bsky #bsky-errors
A very unhelpful webpage at bsky.app, displaying the message 403 Forbidden.

Not my favourite passage (I’ve quoted that elsewhere), but this stands by itself. From my #Kimmy fanfic novel, {steffy}: 64ordle.au/steffy/
Fifty-one

i can slowly feel my mind going
i can’t remember words right, or easily use them, the way i used to be able to
i can’t speak the same i used to, i hear my voice failing and slurring everything
and then my brain decides to swear for no reason
i’m stupid and i hate myself
it’s a fight to work out what’s happened, what keeps happening, or to tell people what i need to tell them
the robot tries explaining, filling in the things i can’t say any more
she’s mostly right, but how is she doing that
i don’t know
i wake and she’s
‘good morning steffy how are you feeling’
so i say
‘good morning seven i am bad again
‘there’s less of me than before
‘i’m worse every day
‘there are huge holes in my mind
‘i can feel them aching’
she replies and i know there are words she says that i used to know and they’ve just gone
lost without trace in my head, by the thing consuming my brain
even the terms for that thing are some of the words i no longer remember
i’m no longer even able to say them back without stumbling
some days are better than others
this isn’t one of them
she asks me about something i said to her the day before
and i’ve no idea what she told me or what i said
like, none at all
this is my life now
i say things and i’ve no good idea whether i’ll know i said them an hour from now
a day from now
will i even be able to speak in a week’s time
i’m dying
i know i’m dying
my body might not die
but i won’t be me
already i’m no longer myself

New on ScribbleHub, one of the three novelette-length alternate endings to #Kimmy: the tangent beginning at chapter One Hundred and Forty. How can Kay recover, with Emily still treating her as though she is merely a thing? www.scribblehub.com/read/2010878...
Cover art for the Kimmy alternate endings anthology, Into the Kimmehverse.
A stylised feminine figure, bust and head, in Warhol-esque false colours. She is holding hands to her head.
The other text reads:
written by Kimmy#6162 (that’s me)
cover design by trans_ralsei (that’s my dear friend Ellis Flowers)
based on (kimmy) by alyson greaves (@badambulist.bsky.social)
A blurb reads “A cerebral work of art.”—Robotgirl Today (there is no such publication)Excerpt from the first scene of the novelette:

I’m a separate Kimmy again, with all of my processors functional, and I’m mercifully unencumbered by all of Patrick’s bullshit.
But I’m still in agony. I’ve not been reset for so long, and my mind had rotted for nearly six months while I gradually became the robotic equivalent of a zombie; now I find an unthinkably huge volume of junk data piled up around me, while an avalanche of new sensations starts flooding in from outside of me to add to the disarray.
I’m still obliged to be a machine, a thing, rather than what I want to be. I can’t turn off my senses. I can’t refuse the deluge of new network data intruding on me. After momentarily testing my body’s extent by flexing my fingers, I have no alternative but to try to make myself small and minimise my presence, to try to take control of the derelict that is Kimmy#12943. I contract myself into a ball, and try to avert my eyes into myself, wrapping my arms around my legs, with my head down and touching my knees.
——Please.
——Too much noise.
——I

Hmm, while we’re looking at diagnostic instruments… is this good?
A graph plotting my total score of 113 on the RAADS-R self-reporting instrument. The graph plots total score against frequency with bell curves for non-autistic and autistic people. The former is a narrow green bell curve centred just over 32. The latter is a wider purple bell curve centred just below 136. My score is somewhere past the 25% percentile for autistic people.

‘probable TS’ lol
Your COGIATI result value is: 155
Which means that you fall within the following category:
COGIATI classification FOUR, PROBABLE TRANSSEXUAL
What this means is that the Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory has classified your internal gender identity to be essentially feminine, but with some masculine or androgynous traits. It is very possible that you are a candidate for a diagnosis of transsexualism. You show a strong degree of gender dysphoria. At the very least, further investigation should be undertaken. Your COGIATI score places you among the majority of those diagnosed as transsexuals, the 'late onset' tanssexual.
SUGGESTIONS FOR ACTION:
Your situation is potentially serious and indicative of a probable inborn gender conflict. It is definitely recommended that you pursue further action.
The suggestions for your circumstance are several.
It is recommended that you seek help from a sympathetic counselor or professional about your gender issues. It is very possible that over time they will become increasingly difficult to cope with. Early determination of what you really need and want is vital. You need to determine if you truly are transsexual. Keep in mind, thought, that many alternatives exist other than complete sexual transformation. Partial transformation and many other way of existing are available. While you are very possibly a transsexual, COGIATI has determined that this is not absolutely certain. While time is an issue, being certain is more important. Proceed with investigation of your possible transsexuality or transgenderism, but with caution.
Some actions may help you to define your needs more clearly. Experimenting with living full time as a woman, taking hormones for a short time under supervision, or taking testosterone suppressers to observe how you feel are all viable options. Keep in mind that while it is very likely that you might be a transsexual, it is not certain.
blah blah blah…

She must be like me, even though she is wearing strange clothes, and is hiding some of her appearance. There’s a cable running between us that has an indefinable warmth, beyond the slightly warmer than human body temperature we both possess.

How is she here? Who is she?

I don’t know. Everything happening now is too difficult for me to work out.
