While 603 Equality in its current incorporated form will be no more, we are dedicated to ensuring our advocacy and policy work continue for the benefit of our LGBTQ+ community throughout New Hampshire. We are working diligently to ensure a smooth wind-down and programmatic transition.

A 2/3 vote in BOTH legislative bodies is required to fully override the veto. This year, we were tracking several bills

603 Equality @603equality.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
Veto Day is an opportunity for the state legislator to overturn any vetoes issued by the governor. Bills are returned to the legislative body of origin first and voted on to determine if the veto will be upheld, or if the bill will advance towards having the veto overridden.

603 Equality @603equality.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
Veto day was yesterday, and we have some good news to share from the results of the voting. All of the vetoed anti-lgbtqia bills that were up for consideration had their vetoes upheld - which means that they will not become law.

The colors are representative of the gender spectrum, and the design is meant to celebrate the vast diversity across the entire gender spectrum, from one end of the binary to another.

The Trans Pride flag is filled with symbolism. The trans pride flag was designed by Monica Helms, an openly transgender American woman, in August 1999.

This year, our legislators have moved Veto day to August 19th. What is veto day? It's a day in the NH Legislature where the houses can reconvene to attempt to overturn the Governor's vetoes by a 2/3 vote.

Members of LGBTQ+ communities not only face disparate police harm, they are also underserved by law enforcement. When investigating crimes in which victims are transgender, law enforcement agencies at times fail to recognize people’s gender identity, thereby impeding investigations

gender diverse folks are much more likely to be stopped and searched by police. These statistics are compounded by intersectional identities, including race, mobility, etc.

Throughout our country’s history, there have been aspects of LGBTQIA+ identities that have been criminalized.

603 Equality @603equality.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
The Stonewall Uprising began as a response to targeted police violence against the LGBTQIA+ community. This was not the first, nor the last, instance of excessive force and over-policing of this community.
102
603 Equality @603equality.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
It is important to remember the history of over-policing of targeted communities to understand how that past informs perceptions, biases, and police-community relations today.

603 Equality @603equality.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
Both the LGBTQIA Community + the BIPOC community experience higher rates of over policing, which leads to higher criminalization rates of both communities, and higher likelihood of harassment and police violence.

603 Equality @603equality.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
Over-policing can have devastating consequences for a community, including: 👉Higher rates of police violence and harassment 👉Lack of trust between community and police 👉Higher toll on community mental health

How do we know if a piece of legislation is good or bad? We measure it against our policy platform. In early 2026 we drafted our first policy platform as an org. Over the past 7 months of legislative work, we've updated it to be more inclusive of our organizational values and our community needs.

We need your help to hold the line. NH has become a testing ground for the worst anti-lgbtqia legislation out there. Our unique legislative landscape makes our state house easy to manipulate by extremists, and more susceptible to outside influence.

We fought against 21 anti-lgbtqia+ bills in NH this year alone. Now we need your help to sustain the fight. 2026 was a record-breaking year in NH for all the wrong reasons. We fought against 21 anti-lgbtqia+ laws. Together, we defeated all but 3. We know that there is more work ahead of us.
