I am no expert on Ohio, but Ramaswamy’s race hasn’t seem to have been a big issue. To me, Ohio has developed a bizarrely strong GOP tribal consensus - that if you don’t vote GOP you will be ostracized socially. I blame the lack a quality second public university system.

I agree with this. we’re going to spend this season realizing how good Tomlin was at getting a lot of OK players (and some standouts) to the playoffs more often than other teams. Rogers must be a great talker because at this point he is a mediocre at best QB.

I don’t disagree with you - street crime in big cities was a big deal, and supercharged the hollowing out of the a lot of mid-sized cities downtowns. New York has come back (Times Square is safer than it ever was). Saint Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, etc. have never recovered.

Having lived through this as a kid (although in a different city) I perceive this as an economic issue as much as anything else: middle class people did not murder and we’re not murdered. I don’t know if that is true, but that was the received wisdom of youth.
