We wrote this book for every person who has been fucked over by the medical system. Everyone who has been told that their symptoms are "all in your head", or been told they had ailments they did not. Everyone who has ever been scared to quit their jobs for fear of losing health insurance.

Decide in advance where your breakpoint is between avoiding surrendering to an institution for treatment and optimizing for outcomes. You don't want to be making an ideological decision on the fly, while sick. The idea here is to give you options. It's up do you to decide what is best for YOU.

The idea here is to give you a good crib sheet so you can treat yourself to some extent without engaging with that system. This is not a medical education, this is the cliffs notes. But the bibliography and citations should be able to fill in as much detail as you'd like to absorb.

Many of us are unable or unwilling to engage the medical infrastructure. We needn't belabor the points that said medical infrastructure is unfriendly to those who do not fit into very prescribed categories. Nobody wants to be murdered by neglect because of bigotry, or hauled off to prison.
