Front-end dev: “back-end is hard” Back-end dev: “front-end is hard” Full-stack dev: “everything is hard” 👀 😂

Thanks Dominik, took me a while to find the setting but I’ve switched the on now 👍

Hey! I'm looking for a co-founder/partner to help me build and grow some Laravel projects. I’m open to both techie and non-techie roles. If you’re up for a new challenge, hit me up in DMs and I’ll share more details!

If you’re a guy in your 20s, buy a headspace subscription. Go in debt if you have to.

I agree. I think the main benefit is saving time. I built my own boilerplate to speed up my own workflow. Ironically I’ve now not had the time to build any projects with it. 😂

I kinda liked carry-on tbh. Not watched many movies recently but a few series I’d recommend: Silo (Apple+) Black Doves (Netflix) Presumed Innocent (Apple+) Gangs of London (Netflix)

Got some free time coming up in the new year and looking for a few Laravel projects to work on. I’ve built apps from scratch with Laravel, handling everything from front-end to back-end to deployment. If you need an extra hand or someone to help move things forward, feel free to reach out!

You never know… City next on Boxing Day… Can’t see us beating you tbh - but derby’s can be strange games.

Yeah a draw against Arsenal is never bad. We do need to start picking up a few more wins though if we’re gonna start moving away from the relegation zone.

You’ve got us blues to thanks for that 😉 Watched our game and was overall happy with a draw given the opponents and situation. Gutted missed the TOTLIV game with all those goals ⚽️

There is Tom Select which doesn’t require jquery. Can be fiddly to style though.

Nice one, I’ll take a look. Local storage is suffice for now (famous last words) but makes sense to move assets off the production server when things start to ramp up.

Last night I had to make some urgent adjustments to a form in work. The client needed a file upload and extra form fields. Luckily I’d built the site with Laravel so it was super easy to do. A couple of additional lines of code and boom. Laravel is such a joy to work with.

That’s not too much then. Glad you figured out how to speed things up. I suppose that’s the downside of CDN’s is that you’re relying on their server speed.

Understanding code is more crucial than ever. Lately, I've been integrating AI into my workflow for faster code generation. But I only add it to my codebase if I fully understand what it's doing; no blindly copying and pasting. What’s your approach to using AI in development?

Nice. Does it cost much? For my current use case it’s probably not essential to store remotely but always worth planning ahead. What do you not like about it?

In your Laravel app, do you save files/images locally or via some kind of CDN? If CDN, which one y’all using?

Literally just had the email about copilot becoming free on GitHub. Personally, I’ve not tried it yet other than the odd debugging in that GPT. But honestly I think it’s the future. Still worth understanding syntax imho.

Thanks for the recommendation. I tend to get stuck in loops of rumination which are so hard to break. I’ll take a look at the book. Thanks Di.

Oh nice, sounds interesting. How do you stop yourself getting distracted while in the flow? I’ve used the pomodoro technique in the past with some success. But currently really struggling myself with focus.

Congrats Caleb, Flux is maturing nicely. Gutted I didn’t have the time to push Turbine UI harder. Themes was one of the things I slaved over only to neglect it completely in the end 🙈

People don’t hand over cash so easy for cool products if they don’t save them money or time. There was certainly a bubble for a while on Twitter where it was easier to market to other devs and techies. This times unfortunately seem to have passed. Totally relate to your frustration though.

In past generations workers went down the mines for little pay and huge risk to life. Now, you can work from home and become a millionaire from the comfort of your own couch. What a time to be alive.

Yep 😂 Why do devs have to make everything seem complicated though… Such a great moment when you realise that it’s often simpler than you first thought.

I’ve just asked both my kids (11 and 14) who this is? They both looked at me like I was mad and said they didn’t have a clue 😂 It was one of those moments that I felt old. “By the Power of Grayskull! I have the power!”

There are so many terms in web development that are intimidating. Often the underlying concept is simpler… but not always obv 😂

Andy Griffiths @4ndygriffiths.bsky.social · 13/12/2024

Oh for sure. There’s lots of code examples which is great to help new devs get going. It’s just worth noting that there are many viable options and not to get bogged down in wondering which is the ‘best’ way.

Sounds like a great synopsis. Considered rebuilding Dazzle for Bluesky 🤔 But then again, don’t wanna fall foul of platform risk again.
