i have done one shoot outdoors when the temp was perfect, it was probably mid 50s and i was walking around a lot. havent been that comfortable since. sweat ruins my hair fast so it's a functional limitation, too. but don't get me wrong. i do love a good sweat, though, just not here.

this quick shoot was MISERABLE. i thought i could be out comfortably in 75degF (24degC) weather, but the answer to that is NO. i was drenched in sweat and not in a good way. it was like at 0200 btw.

the goal being that we start to break down the notion of "i am too ugly to wear that". this isnt like a super high concept thing lol, but that's how i started to come to terms with beauty standards, etc. this actually part of a much longer rant. anyhow glad you enjoy the photo as much as i did!

nah i get it. i'm comfortable with my body these days. i like to think of my body as a mannequin that i can dress up however i want, and in this way appearance stops mattering. like a stand-in. i hope people see me and think, "oh hey, he's pretty average looking, that could be me in his shoes!"

even so, it's a constant fight to get it to style it correctly, and walking out of a stylist leaves me much poorer and no better looking 😭. it's primary reason i'll discard a photo, even more so than lighting or posing errors. when it works it works, and i'm working towards being okay with that.

time flies! as a matter of fact, this photo is actually dated 2022 if i had to guess. i do still have that suit though, too. and thanks again! my hair and i have been through a bumpy relationship. i'm not a particularly pretty person, and my hair is the one thing i genuinely like about my face.

it's a set, but it's a real, complete house that the original owner went all out some of the gaudiest plasterwork ever done. the whole house is like this. allegedly he'd done the whole job himself, painting, casting, all that. in the middle of a suburb. you'd never know it from the outside.

while might seems like the petticoats used here and in other dresses ive worn might offer a cooling effect, the effect is quite the opposite. heat is trapped under the skirt and, when you finally go to remove them, you'll shiver, finding them quite warm from your trapped body heat!

another thing i should add is i think we should avoid demonizing wanting and seeking attention, including through making art online. doing so makes that barrier seem more impenetrable. there are ways to do it that are productive and healthy.

which is to say, it's more permeable the more you're willing to "play the game". but theres no promises youll make it through even if you tick all the clout chaser boxes. correlating quality with attention is a mistake (though dveryone does feel the pull to do so, myself included).

so it was supposed to look more like this, but we loved the hoop skirt so much we added it in. note seam on left side, one of two for the skirt. also shown is a larger bow, which was swapped out for a smaller one later to showcase the collar detail and detract less from the apron's upper frills.

from the archives: a test of the Type 4 L uniform the day i completed it, which is to say, the day before the photoshoot. two fabric petticoats are used here, giving it a flatter appearance than final. the hoop skirt arrived the following day, and was tried on for the first time during the shoot.
