Finished "Erased" last night. It has such a strong start, super interesting premise... But it's like it couldn't build much on top of it, or wrap it up in an interesting way. It's still a super interesting anime, very much worth the watch 🫡

Working anywhere, but maybe especially in a creative field like game audio, just being recognized publicly or even internally does SO much for how you feel about work. The change from being somewhere where "the studio did x and y" to "3x worked on x and y" does so much for how you feel about work...

Get recommended a video game review on YouTube Watch 15 minutes It's just some guy giving a play-by-play of what's happening on screen without any insight or commentary Like give your opinion or thoughts on the thing 😩so many "reviews" are just the synopsis part of the Wikipedia page...

These types of studies are very important to get the actual facts out that gender affirming care saves lives... But at the same time, nothing will change as long as the people at the top decide "nah I just don't like the vibes, they can die" It'll be a while...

1. In an incredible new landmark review, the Health Council of the Netherlands has declared that gender-affirming care for trans youth works, reducing wait times is "morally urgent," and regret is rare. It is the latest of many Euro countries to advance care. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Landmark Official Dutch Review Recommends Trans Youth Care, Call For Expanding Treatment

The review finds that wait times must be shortened, that few people detransition, and that trans youth care has enormous benefits.

I guess its a bit like recognizing a layer or full SFX as something from a library. It doesn't make for bad art, but when you know how its made it kinda makes my brain go "the magic is gone now..."

My bullshit gripe with animation is that I hate it when I can _imagine_ the footage the animator captured as reference. like obviously this is done all the time, but when I see animation that makes me think "Some guy acted this out in his kitchen before animating this scene" I just go 😫

Some people just need a reason why a sound doesnt work. It's lower fidelity then the rest, it doesn't tell the player anything beyond "a thing happened", the recording is super noisy, it just clashes in terms of style.. you know that as a sound designer!!!

040

3xBlast @3xblast.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

Comes up surprisingly often.. And in that case its just vibes and feelings, you like the sound because its yours!! If you don't have the vocabulary to talk about sound, feelings is all you have and that's fine... but as a sound designer, be confident and tell people why a sound is better!!!

130

3xBlast @3xblast.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

Important soft skill to have as a sound designer is confidence in your work, especially when faced with well meant ideas or input from non sound people on the project you're on!!! Like no, the placeholder sound you recorded on your phone 4 years ago isn't better then what I put in, sorry, trust me!!
