Good to know. They all need some editing, but I think the novella is the most complete story with upmarket potential. One short story I think is pretty solid and most ready to go. The other is decent if maybe a little standard I suppose.

I don't know why this anniversary has felt harder than others. Maybe it's the milestone. Maybe it's the current political climate. Maybe it's a younger generation not fully understanding or caring. Maybe I'm just old and tired and sad and frustrated and angry. Maybe all of the above.

That weekend I played a hockey game in Mennen, NJ. Lots of cars pulling off onto the shoulder of the high way to get out and look at the skyline. I distinctly remember seeing smoke still coming up from Ground Zero.

It was all very scary and confusing. It was so massive and horrifc that I couldn't fully grasp what had happened. It didn't really hit me until a day or two later. Reading the NY Daily News and seeing a picture of a person's hand in the rubble. Just a hand. Nothing else.

One thing I had forgotten but was reminded just a few days ago was that the phones were down. For days. Same with the internet because, y'know, dial-up. Sometimes I would pick up the phone just to see if they were back. It was eerie feeling at least partially cut-off from parts of the world.

My Dad worked nights in NYC (and had actually worked in the WTC years before, I still have his business card), so he was safe. I remember every TV channel was wall-to-wall coverage. ESPN, MTV, Comedy Central. All showing it as it was happening.

Seeing lots of 9/11 footage has been hard. I was in HS in NJ when it happened. The most enduring thing I remember is the intercom calling students to the office so their parents could pick them up. By the time I had lunch, the normally packed room was almost empty. Only me & a handful remained.
