The writer of the Kya comic original pitch was Kya searching for queer history in the Southern Water Tribe.

Mystery of Penquan Island 7/10 As a certified Mako hater, I surprised liked this story a lot. I actually wish I was longer. More specifically, I really enjoyed learning more about his mother and I desperately want to see more. The present day story is fun, but not as interesting.

Ruins of the Empire 9/10 Honestly the comic I was the most interesting in reading out of the postshow content. I was really curious to see how the Earth Kingdom would transition into democracy. The political themes (unfortunately) haven't aged a day, and might be even more relevant today.

Anyway, Turf War 10/10 Jesus Christ this book was fantastic. This almost feels essential to read after the final episode of TLOK. Obviously, I adore Korra and Asami's relationship, but I also love Varrick and Zhu Li's and the Turf War itself. Required reading for any Korra fan.

Hey so I just started reading Turf War and uh what the fuck? Not only does Korra acting surprised Kya is queer directly contradicts Secrets of the Sand, this entire conversation showcases a lot the author wanted to write about. Seriously what the fuck was Nick on about?

Let's include The Legend of Korra comics as well Kya and the Secret of the Sand 8/10 The best part of was seeing Kya comfort Korra. As someone recovering from an injury, I can't help but feel for Korra. The actual story was fine, but Kiku Hughes's original pitch would have been more interesting.

Jet: Rebels and Rhinos 8/10 In my opinion, a very necessary story to tell. Jet's episode in Book 1 was honestly one of the weakest, and I think this is a much better introduction to his character. My biggest criticism though is how The Rhinos where written to feel less threatening here than in TLA

Last but not least The Bounty Hunter and the Tea Brewer 9/10 Honestly the only reason I'm not giving this a 10 is because I think I've been handing them out too much. I didn't expect June and Iroh's stories to overlap so well, but they absolutely do. A fantastic pairing and a fantastic story.

Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy 10/10 This might be my favorite of the graphic novels. Toph was already one of my favorite characters, but seeing her take on a teaching role and trying to create a save haven for lost benders really spoke to me. She's no longer one of. She IS my favorite.

Imbalance 10/10 EASILY the best out of the Graphic Novel trilogies. It beautifully showcases the growing maturity of Team Avatar while also setting up the conflicts in Legend of Korra. I'm really glad I read through these comics before watching LOK. I'm very hyped to finally watch that show

Ashes of the Academy 10/10 I love Zuko, Kiyi, and Mai so fucking much. I also feel passionate about the themes expressed in this story. Seeing Mai in particular find new purpose in her life while dismantling the traditions of the fire nation was perfection. This honestly might be my favorite comic.

Azula in the Spirit Temple 10/10 These comics have completely turned my opinion on Azula around. I initially saw her as a one dimension villain, but now I see a victim of the Fire Nation's cycle of abuse. The last author's note perfectly explains why this comic and Azula as a whole are fantastic.

North and South 8.5/10 The last Gurihiru novel and a pretty good one to end off on. I've found the political messaging of these comics to be the best part, and the conflict between the north and south pole here has been the most interesting to me. I wish it had a more solid ending, but still great

Smoke and Shadow 8/10 To be honest I found the main plot a bit weak, especially the drama between Mei and Zuko, however the B plot with Ursa was absolutely fantastic. She's becoming easily the best part of these comics for me. Also any moment between Zuko and Kiyi is peak. I love them so much

The Rift 9/10 I was sad Toph wasn't in the last novel, but this completely makes up for it. Her relationship with her parents was one of the biggest loose ends from the show I was upset never got resolved. This novel only addresses her dad, but still I am really happy we got anything at all. (1/2)

The Search 9/10 MUCH better. It feels like the original creators had much more input in the story this time. Ursa's back story adds so much to the greater story of Avatar, as well as Zuko and Azula's specifically. The ending did get me emotional. My only issue is one scene with Aang getting upset.

The Promise 5/10 I had a lot of hope for the first post show story. While some of the ideas are interesting, Zuko, Katara, Roku, and even Aang are written frustratingly out of character. I am shocked at how poorly the writer of this book understood the show's ending. At least Toph is incredible

Suki, Alone 10/10 Speaking of Suki, holy fucking shit her solo story is incredible. Dare I say this might be "essential reading" for the show. This story is both heartbreaking and inspirational. It makes everything that happens in The Boiling Rock have even more emotional impact. 1000% recommend

The Kyoshi Warriors 8/10 *Technically* not a graphic novel, but fuck it. I will take any chance I can to get more Suki content. She is such a great character that aadly didn't get much time in the show. This story in particular serves as a great transition from book 1's themes to book 2.

Katara and the Pirate’s Silver 8/10 Not a very significant addition to the story, but it was a really fun read. Katara herself was fantastic, but I also love the new pirates introduced. Any chance this worlds has to add moral complexity to factions or archetypes is always appreciated.

Here are my thoughts on each of the Avatar Graphic Novels I've read. With how incredible The Last Airbender is, my expectations are really high. I'll try my best though to keep an open mind.

We're almost done with the filler section. I just have 3 more specials/movies to watch and then it's back to the manga.

Black Flag Resynced has gotten be back in a pirate mood. It's time to return back to One Piece. Up next is the Ruluka Island Filler Arc. Will it be good? God I hope so.

I'll try to get back to one piece the moment I can. I'm gonna be honest, I've lost a bit of motivation after loosing the friend that helped me get into the series in the first place. At the same time, the straw hat crew have basically become my new friends, so maybe returning to them is what I need.

So I visited a friend's house this weekend and he wanted to watch One Piece with me so I guess I'm starting the Sky Island saga now. We got a bit of filler to get through before we go back to the manga though. Starting off, we have the Goat Island Arc.

With me finishing up the Baroque Works Saga, I'm going to be taking a brief break from my One Piece journey. There is something very important I must do. Final Space Season 3 ended in 2021, and after 5 long years, the final chapter has finally been released and is in my hands.

Alrighty. We got a LOT of filler to get through. Starting off with the Post-Alabasta episodes. Besides reading the brief description on the wiki, I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Will it be good? Will it be bad? Will it be a waste of time? Let's find out.

This arc and this saga as a whole has been absolutely incredible, and it ends on a perfect note that immediately makes me interested in the future of this story and where shit is gonna go. I'm so fucking glad I finally got into this series. One Piece? More like One PEAK

Pretty much once the day of the battle hits, the rest of this arc is peak. Incredible action, incredible character, incredible emotions, incredible art, fucking everything about this arc is amazing.

Oda's passion and attention to detail helps this especially. Every aspect of this world feels so thought out and it makes everything feel so real, despite the zany characters. I already talked about Bon a lot, but that is another example of a character Oda obviously put a lot of passion into.

I can't even remember the last piece of media that has made me feel this way. These characters are real people to me. I know them each personally and consider them to all be friends. I want all of them to succeed and I will be rooting for them until the very last panel of this story.

321GameTime @321gametime.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
I wasn't kidding when I said before I got immersed in this story. It was in this arc that I no longer read this series as a fan. I had personal and emotional investment in this story. I felt so deeply connected to this world and these characters, I started to have REAL emotions.
110
321GameTime @321gametime.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
With all of that being said... What did get me emotional was the deaths of the nameless characters, and the violence they were manipulated into committing. Vivi's struggle to end this war hit me so hard emotional, ESPECIALLY because of recent events happening in the world.
100
321GameTime @321gametime.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
So when the story tries to make me feel some emotions during another character "death" I feel absolutely nothing because I know that they will come back.
100
321GameTime @321gametime.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
The final gripe I want to mention involves main character deaths, and how they don't exist. Unless you are from a flashback, you are guaranteed to be alive. Igram's "death" at the end of Whisky Peak was such a great way to build tension for the saga, but it ended up meaning nothing.

321GameTime @321gametime.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
Another gripe I have is with Luffy. As much as I love this series and the main crew, I'm honestly mixed on how I feel about Luffy as a protagonist. It feels like his Intellect is dependent on what is the most convenient for the story.

321GameTime @321gametime.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
I understand Oda is trying to set up the future of OP, but I personally prefer when stories focus on what is immediately important to the current story. In a similar vein, it's been over 100 chapters since we've seen Buggy despite him basically being right behind the crew last time we saw him.
110
321GameTime @321gametime.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
It definitely isn't perfect. I have a few issues I want to mention The start of this arc can be very slow. There are a lot of great moments, however it does feel like it takes a while for the main plot to kick in. The introduction of Ace for example really hurts the pacing for me.

Alright Alabasta arc final thoughts: I did not expect One Piece to KEEP improving this much. Drum Island was absolutely fantastic, and I thought that would be my pick for favorite arc this saga but GOD NO.
