There's also the personal aspect of art which is often overlooked. Art is ~about~ things and expresses the thoughts of the artist about life, society, etc. You can ask AI to draw you of a picture of "two weird people kissing", but it can't express your feelings of isolation. YOU have to do that.

From Russia with Love (1963) The one in which S.P.E.C.T.R.E makes revenge porn of James Bond. A significant improvement over Dr. No. in every way but God damn is Bond a prick. Watching this made me realize just how much this movie specifically set the tone for the entire spy genre. 8/10

Dr No. (1962) Wow! Bond films really do be like that, don’t they? This one mostly holds up despite some very questionable decisions. Still not sure what Dr No’s plan was. I know it involved messing with a rocket launch using lasers but I have no idea why or how radiation fits into it all. 7/10

I suspect that this is more a result of deadlines and not having the time to properly polish things than him having a "bean mouth". In fact if you look at the concept art you get the impression there was some insane talent involved early on. Look at those colors! Where did they go!? (cont)

If you look at the original character sketches you can see that they were probably going for Elio being a sort of free spirit with wild, unkempt hair and it sort of works there. In the final product though it just kind of looks like he didn't take a shower. (cont)

His hair is the other major issue. It doesn't say much about Elio's character and doesn't give him as distinct of a silhouette compared to Luca/Alberto. (Also that cape they gave him really clashes with the rest of the outfit. Just saying.) (cont)

Unlike Luca all his clothing is dark grey with nothing to break it up. His sash should do this i n theory, but since it's gray as well it only compounds the issue. I think this was done to compensate for scenes taking place in dark rooms, but it's not working. (cont)

Now let's look at Elio. I don't dislike the style as much as other people do but you can clearly see that things don't pop as much as Luca. There's a few reasons for this, but I think a lot of it boils down to lighting, color, and Elio's design. (cont)

Alberto has a similar thing going for him but with a more muted color contrast to give Luca (the protagonist) a bit more focus. He's also taller and longer, emphasizing that he's the more mature and well-traveled of the pair. You understand this instantly without even seeing the film. (cont)

Look at the color balance on each of the characters as well. The dark of Luca's hair is balanced out by the dark of his shorts while his white shirt breaks this up with a little visual texture. This contrast also makes his eyes pop out, even from a distance. (cont)
