I’m just ignoring the giant icebergs just off my port bow—Thanksgiving and then Christmas! If I just keep repeating, “la la la” all day every day, I don’t have to thin…

We have had a week of blessed cooler weather with even a bit of rain. Seems to be helping the insane fires in the state. Most are reaching containment. Thank goodness. My garden is still a bit tatt…

It’s been so hot that I’m not sure whether I’m thinking about temperatures, the 4th of July celebrations, or just our immigrant culture in the U.S. Whatever is on the back of my t…

How is it almost July already? I always consider the 4th the midway point of summer, and I am pretty sure I do not have my spring chores done yet. I still have a fountain covered in plastic that ne…

One of the joys of being a social gardener, by that I mean a person who talks gardening to others, has neighbors and friends that garden, and occasionally shows up at plant swaps, is that now and t…

You’ve been warned! I went through our picture files and found some leftovers from my MI trip in May. I went to one of the weirdest estate sales ever, and you’ll see why. To offset the …

I’ve seen great flowers while driving from Colorado to Michigan and back again. The wild redbuds were just gorgeous along the expressway. I didn’t realize how many there were in Iowa an…

We have a fun little post today with some cool vintage sewing items and a really crazy thing at the end, so read all the way through! First up, some flowers because we get complaints if we don&#821…

Or something along those lines. I’m in Michigan for my sister’s funeral and celebration of life. I’m glad that it’s over with and everything went okay with minimal family dr…

I was told that some folks missed our flower pictures at the beginning of a post, so here is one perfect viola: I love the common name Johnny-jump-ups. All the delight of a pansy, but they move aro…

At least we are hoping for some. They are predicting some severe thunderstorms for tonight, and we will hope to miss the hail that they say is possible. I really don’t need that this early in…

Wow, is it spring already? We have had several years in a row of spring arriving way later than normal, but this year we are way ahead of schedule. Trees are blooming a solid three weeks early, and…

We have seen a couple of things lately that maybe we were wrong about. You know what they say about being wrong: But, I have to add that even when we’re wrong about something’s worth, w…

We are totally ready for some April Showers around here. March has been blowing around a bit too long. We have already had one brush fire that destroyed a home, so unless we get some rain soon it i…

It’s been cooler and windy for the last week, with even a wee bit of moisture. We are sure that spring is coming, at least on the calendar. Our faith is being rewarded next week as we’r…

I would like to think spring is here, but I know better. Just to tempt me, there is this: My dad’s back yard is a solid month ahead of my yard, as it backs to a three-story sandstone building…

It’s hard to complain when the weather has been unseasonably warm and sunny only occasionally interrupted by some windy, coolish weather. I was reminded what a real winter is like when I spen…

Deb has been gone for several weeks dealing with life’s “stuff”. She is back this week and we are ready to shop. I found this sign last week and it about sums up our relationship:…

I have a bunch of leftovers for this week’s post. I’ve always liked the sound of the words flotsam and jetsam without really knowing what they meant. It turns out that flotsam means deb…

Well, at least that is the way I look at Valentine’s Day. My favorite day of the year is the day after, when all the candy in the world is on sale! I stock up on dark chocolate by the bagful.…

Don’t know how many of you are old enough to remember the song by the Five Man Electrical Band’s song “Signs” but it’s what I think about when going through the pictur…

One of the joys of Colorado is that we hardly ever have snow on the ground for any length of time. It snows, and it can snow a lot, but then it melts and goes away. You still have to shovel for the…
