I’m a semi-professional theater actor and I once did a show where I had to eat what looked like old moldy food from a garbage dump. It was really just some marshmallows with black food coloring.

The theater world is not too large, so when my director told us her friend was coming, and that her friend just finished her originating role on Broadway as the wife of a certain founding father, we were excited.

So after the show, we meet her. She’s so kind and professional, and everyone does all the normal stage door pleasantries. She says, “Great show! I can’t believe you had to eat that moldy garbage!” Rather than responding like a human, I say, “Thanks! those marshmallows make my poop turn green.”

I guess I threw away my shot.

Still, the name above the title on the marquee counts for an awful lot here. Jordan’s last performance is on Oct. 18, after which Matthew Morrison, who played the role this spring, returns on Oct. 20-Nov. 8. After that comes a decidedly intriguing casting move as Nicholas Christopher, a Tony Award nominee for “Chess,” steps into Darin’s fitted costume on Nov. 10. I might just have to go back for that. Goodbye, Spelling Bee off-Broadway! I was at the first preview and went back tonight because I won't be able to go to closing. What a fun show full of heart that I'm so glad was easy to access for the past almost-year.

We had ASL interpreters! I watched them occasionally, but when I really wanted to pay attention to the action (esp Bowen), if I moved my head a fraction of an inch, I could block them with the railing. What I saw was hilarious.

I went to Edgewater, NJ for the first time today! Got lunch with a friend who moved there from Queens a couple years ago, which means I haven’t seen him in forever. We got a seafood boil. It’s fun to be tactile!

So what the heck happened with Houston Broadway Theatre's Falsettos? (From the director's IG story)

On the first day of rehearsal | texted Bill's partner Arthur to let him know I was starting rehearsals for Falsettos. He responded how glad he was and that he knew Bill was there in the room with us, which is why after 6 bewildering days ending in the cancellation of the production, I'm choosing to focus on care and love especially for the folks below, the creative team, and all who were helping to make what I know would have been a beautiful production. Some day I will finally get to direct this gorgeous show which has lived in me for so long.

Maybe Happy Ending tonight was so special! To celebrate being the longest-running show at the Belasco, we all got an Oliver tote bag that contained a glow stick, along with instructions. This could've gone badly, but didn't! The soft clicking for like 30 seconds was kinda funny, though.
