I have started Silent Hill: Townfall and already I am really gelling with what they are putting down but I know I will need to play in short bursts because the atmosphere is so oppressive I know it will mess with my mood.

Saw Resident Evil today and enjoyed it and have some (non story spoiler) thoughts about it. Don't want to risk saying anything about it on the feed so have popped them in the alt text of this poster.

This film is really tidy, tight and confident. Cregger's mix of comedy and scares are all here. There are some things I do find interesting:

- Thematically it felt extremely light, a story of a man getting from A to B and how he reacts to the insanity around him. The core idea is that of a Player being pulled into a game. He is loudly ordinary but everyone around him is heightened, speaking like video game NPCs, and he is frequently caught in scenarios where more ammo is needed or a key must be retrieved. This is often acknowledged directly in dialogue, in case anyone misses it. Movie succeeds in communicating a video game world to a film, but moreso the mechanics of a game rather than the medium.
- Because of this, it feels like a theme park dark ride or Halloween dungeon experience where the viewer moves with the character from experience to experience.
- The rules of the "zombies" are interestingly specific and gamey, though it jars, how hard the film works to communicate them and pay them off.
- I was surprised how little of the Resi worldbuilding is actually here, to the point I would believe an earlier draft wasn't even in this world. I jokingly made a little bingo card and outside of nods like typewriters, this does not pull much from the (many) games. Resi is extremely dense in lore and a surprising amount is left on the table. i am curious if Sony wil take the same route with Metal Gear Solid.
- Main actor is very good and carries it all very well.
- Great vibes and photography. First hour in particular has shades of The Thing, Fargo.
- If there is a sequel I would like to see it work a little harder, stretch a little further to either convey an idea or dip into the Raccoon City mythology.
- Always interesting to see an American take on a Japanese game about Americans.
- Fun movie. Enjoyed it.

I've started A Plague Tale: Resonance. I really appreciate that this middle shelf series has managed to give us three games.

Had to quickly finish this tonight so I can start Plague Tale tomorrow. South of Midnight. Really nice game, clearly made with care. Reminded me a lot of Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

My headcanon is that Peace Walker is the true MGS5, closing the series, and Phantom Pain never happened. It was all an unfinished daydream in the mind of Troy Baker.

I have started South of Midnight and so far it is a fun vibey southern gothic action game. Production really stands out, storytelling is mix of actual stop motion, simulated stop motion and cutout animation, and character animation seems to be on 2s, maybe 4s. Music is excellent.
