It still can’t generate good art or music, do anything creative really. Even divorced from creativity I wouldn’t trust it to write anything that is both factual and readable. I definitely wouldn’t ask it open questions without verifying every source. Weird to me that this is the hangup people have.

Rusty at spot checking python so I copied the code snippet it gave out into some random python compiler I found online just to verify. Seems to work. 🤷🏾 Even accounted for 0 indexing vs how a human would count spaces.

So, I guess it would be correct to say that LLMs can’t count the number of “r”s in “arriver”, a nature of tokenization, but even the cheapest, baddest, and most readily available at this point can write code that can do it and return the correct answer anyway. idk if those are all that different.

- since by itself the technology doesn’t really read words. So what I imagine happened here is that Google built and ran some python script which worked, so it got the right answer, then Google AI overview tried to do extra analysis that ended up failing at it, same as it would fail before.

It got the count though! I could have cropped the screenshot to lie about the output but again, realistic about the tech. The issue with counting letters in words was fixed in most of these LLMs by understanding the question asked and deciding to build and run a script to answer instead

It’s just a cultural difference. In most American sports I can think of a referee is expected to judge intent, even in the case of serious fouls. A pitcher losing control of a fastball isn’t grounds to eject that player and suspend them if it’s on accident on its own, even if it injures the batter.
