Today, the sun and moon shape poll ends in a narrow lead for the classic square shapes... so naturally the winner is circle. A "don't care" option drew enough votes to hold the square option to a plurality, and were treated as "developer's choice", tipping the scales. #minecraft

The End is accessible now, albeit inhabited only by Enderman. Enchanting is in a more final state, with the community digging into the many different spells applicable to armor, tools, and swords to buff them. It seems the system is random and convoluted, but with a certain logic to it.

Today, the last prerelease before the October 18th feature freeze is released, being Beta 1.9 Prerelease 4. While there will no longer be a "Beta 1.9", the prereleases will continue to use that name for consistency's sake. The update adds the unfinished Enderdragons among other things. #minecraft

In Enderdragon news, a new screenshot is shown that doesn't reveal much new information, but does look very cool. Continuing the theme of being by far the most complicated entity in the blocky world of Minecraft, this dragon will need multiple hitboxes to represent its model properly.

10/9 Today, the Enderdragon's model proves too complicated to be manually textured, and a tool is made to map models to 2D png files for easier texturing. First, a color-coded test texture confirms the tool's accuracy, then a monochrome texture gives it depth, and finally it's colored in. #minecraft

The dragon's model is far larger and more complicated than any other in the game, necessitating recoding how models in Minecraft work just to build. By the end of the day, it's at a point where it can fly around, but doesn't do much else.

Today, there is a sudden announcement that enchanting will be delayed, on account of "something epic" that has just begun development. Later, a particularly mysterious screenshot is shown, with what appears to be an unnaturally dark section of a cave with glittering lights. #minecraft

A peek inside a cave in a forest. It initially looks normal, but upon closer inspection, the darkness inside is not ordinary. There are specks of light inside it, but it's not possible to glean any more information about it.
This was later revealed to be the End Portal, a trippy view into a dark sky with stars that stay fixed relative to the player.
