Wisconsin will have another round of Walleye Wars, with a different target this time.
A screenshot of text on a dark background detailing the history of the "Walleye War" (approx. 1985–1991) in Wisconsin. The introductory paragraph explains that the racist slogan and bumper sticker "Save a walleye, spear an Indian" was used by protesters during the conflict to oppose Ojibwe tribes exercising their federal court-affirmed treaty rights to spearfish, leading to harassment and violent protests at boat landings.

Below, three bullet points outline key details of the conflict: The Conflict:

White protesters claimed native spearing would destroy the walleye population, which research later proved false.

Tribal Rights: The 1983 Voigt Decision (Lac Courte Oreilles v. Voigt) confirmed the Ojibwe right to hunt, fish, and gather off-reservation.

Harassment: Protesters yelled racial slurs, threw rocks, hung effigies, and spiked roads to slash tires.

A series of billboards along I-70 proclaim "Tom Raper RVs / America's #1 RV Dealer!"

I don't like it. It's 'out of sight, out of mind.' Let them put their concentration camps where people will hear and see and complain to the local media about what what's going on. So many "good Germans" swore they never knew what the reich was doing in the camps, far from their houses

I remember gas prices going down in the midst of the 2007-> mortgage crisis, due to lack of demand due to unemployment. And then R's said "look how low gas was at the end of GWB's term!" when trying to criticize Obama for gas prices.

Kudos, I see you were doing this a couple of years before Chicago! But also booooo! Chicago didn't trim out Abolish ICE from its finalist list but you did!

When you see a fleeting "support tamale vendors, x time x place" message in a chat for a random Thursday, and head over to see the line is 2 blocks long - mostly local white people who can risk standing out on the street for a while - something is building. Feels like everyone wants to do more

The great thing is that people who read get it, and people who don't pay attention just know "Trump is President" if this comes to pass so they'll ALSO blame Republicans.

My peeve: You no longer need to buy 11 tubes of toothpaste at the same time to get the discount. Instead must remember to digitally clip each coupon in the Jewel app as you shop, and be ready to be met with a shrug when random promised discounts don't appear in your phone's scanner or at register

If it's a compelling state (ie federal) interest to enforce who can live next to who, maybe they can go after Texas's land use policies because Id' MUCH rather live next to a family of immigrants or refugees, than live next to a fertilizer factory.

"DHS said records also show his total earnings this year cost taxpayers $205,707, including $9,276 for FICA/Medicare taxes." And he did the policing that was asked of him for the salary plus benefits, and paid taxes. These people act like taxpayers got ripped off because of his citizenship status.

From what I understand about rescissions that's the real issue. They can agree on any budget, just to have the executive refuse to spend the money on Dem priorities and claw back the money later. So what's the point of voting yes on ANY budget if that's just what's gonna happen?

I own and live in a 4 unit apartment bldg in Chicago and it's comforting to know that ICE can just rappel down, break all my windows and doors, loot the place, and detain all the tenants for hours in zipties if they feel like it.

Hate to say but the video's out of context. Chicago uses our snow/sand trucks as barriers during planned events (especially after people drove into crowds like in Nice and New Orleans). These were used for the weekend's Taste of Chicago event, with some to protect yesterday's anti-ICE protest route

The People's Flag of Milwaukee — Milwaukee's symbol of pride and unity.
Boldly patterned, rich in symbolism, and memorably simple. A fitting symbol of a city ready to face a new day with clarity and confidence.

Wow, if it is indeed "the human heart" then the comparison between countries would show that Americans are uniquely depraved. Of course I don't agree with that, but that is what his own argument means by extension.

Fox News used to be able to post video of the famous palm trees of Madison Wisconsin at the protests against former governor Scott Walker, *without* needing government "journalists" to get involved. Same with going to Naperville, Ill to get planted "Chicago residents" to opine on the Chicago mayor

I ride my bicycle through all parts of the city (wandrer.earth points!) The north parts of Ward 41 especially are where city and county cop cars are parked at residences and where I, a whitey in spandex, was aggressively buzzed by two different Ford Interceptors on those quiet residential streets.

I worry that TV shares this trope that some scrappy band of fighters will always win against the invasions of aliens/armies. But you're right, we're far bigger with more physical room for dissidents, more whack-a-mole required...and we have more information so "I didn't know" can't work a la Germany

I've been reading "They Thought They Were Free: The Germans 1933-45" by Milton Mayer, published in 1955 after the author interviewed 'good Germans.' So many people just went along to get along, without needing to be terrorized into it by roaming thugs. But the thugs were there for the others.
