Mostly just niche cricket jokes that don’t quite work. Kasprowicz’s hand was off the bat. Opinions barely my own & often contradictory.

Oh yeah, BSky exists.

What if England win from there though? Don’t think I could bear THIS being vindicated.

We all excited for the press conference tonight? England putting up a physio to tell us they’re not interested in the draw?

Love our proactive approach that puts time back into the game (for India to take ten wickets in the fourth dig)

England reinventing test cricket (losing a Test to a Gambhir-led India who don’t even have Bumrah)

I like each of these England bowlers but I’m not sure they add up to an attack, somehow.

Don’t think they’d hate a draw. Back themselves to win once Bumrah returns.

Even with England so far behind the game, it must be hard for India to know what their declaration target is here

More like Karun Snared. No, I’m just not on my game over here.

I’ll be purely on BSky for Day Four. Thoughts on play so far: no thoughts.

Really think the “get the tail in” tactic is worth a go
010
Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 02/07/2025
Good tactic for the afternoon might be to get the tail in and bring on Josh Tongue. Just a thought.

Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 02/07/2025
Sure. The biggest nonsenses all occur with getting sconed trying to duck it. Can’t run leg byes if you didn’t play a shot, unless it was an inept attempt to avoid it hitting you, in which case, cash in.

Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 02/07/2025
Umpires have become soft. If you leave the ball and it hits you, that’s a bad leave. Automatically out and you can take your chances with DRS.

Very much get that. It’s a sickness and a character flaw that I persevere there.

Remember in the last season of Game of Thrones we thought it was dead unrealistic that the nepo-baby just became a tyrannical despot for stupid reasons, whilst saying deeply thick things that sounded like they were written by a four year old? And then Elon Musk happened in real life?

Dropping Rohit is a wild move. No idea if it’s a right one, but definitely quite a shock. Can’t remember another move like it in recent history?

If the cricketing schedule is that bad, why isn’t there an England Test Match for me to watch right now? Makes you think.

89/7: oh, they were trying to set up a declaration. Labuschagne and McSweeney going at sub 20 SR: oh, no they weren’t Marsh and Head above Smith: oh, they WERE! Marsh 2 from 13: I don’t know what’s happening Cummins 22 from 10: I’m out

Usually when you wake up and check a scorecard you can get a decent idea of how the innings panned out and what the plan was. This one… I’m baffled.

Played this with some very abusive lads last year but Sir Strauss assured me that’s not the usual crowd.

24 overs in 2hr 10 for Australia so far. No let up for the India batters. It’s a tactic.

Mitchell Starc is so good with the pink ball, you can see why they used to try and sand the colour off the red one for him.

Come to Lord’s for a day’s Test Cricket! Only £180! “Oh wow, £2 per over?” In theory! Probably more like £2.20! “Do you have any good players?” Well they haven’t played much before. But they’re tall! “And are we in with a shot at a title?” Don’t know, don’t understand it! Are you engaged yet?!

Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 03/12/2024
There’s a really easy way to sort over rates, too, by the way. You can’t change the field til you catch up to the rate. That includes left-hand, right-hand (slips can switch sides to avoid the no ball).
560
Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 03/12/2024
That shouldn’t be the main reason for its existence imo. And is arguable. The main reason should be the test of tactics and selection.

Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 03/12/2024
Stupidly there is a cut off point for the fines, which there shouldn’t be.
010
Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 03/12/2024
It’s the equivalent of letting a captain get away with giving four bowlers five overs each in a t20 so that they don’t need a fifth bowler. That would be unthinkable. This should be too.
140
Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 03/12/2024
One of cricket’s greatest qualities is that you’re always a player short. Do you play the extra bat or the extra bowler? Once in a generation you get someone who can genuinely do both. Slow over rates allow you to get away picking four bowlers. Ruins it.
1110
Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 03/12/2024
The fact it finished early is irrelevant. In fact, slow over rates can contribute to that. It means captains don’t have to find as many overs and their bowlers stay fresher.

*recency bias. Though I do like the idea of decency bias. That would also lead me to lead towards Root and Kohli.

Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 24/11/2024
He’s not, obviously. That’s Joe Root. But we doing a bit of decency bias, here.

Can’t believe our keeper has gone down injured in New Zealand and we don’t have a proper back up. First time that’s happened since the last tour of New Zealand when our keeper went down injured and we didn’t have a proper back up.

Jon H @127jh.bsky.social · 23/11/2024
Fancy-dan stuff from Jaiswal putting pressure back on the bowlers by making them bowl a third spell. What if there was a ball with his name on? Manufacture some sixes, man.
