Day 1* on the @southwestcoastpath.bsky.social and I needed to complete the Minehead to Porlock section after missing it earlier with tent trouble. A fantastic walk and I’m glad I came back to do it. A good breeze, clear views and sunshine. A really good path too, sometimes carved into the cliff.

Final day 6 of this trip on the @southwestcoastpath.bsky.social took us Barnstaple today. Along the Taw estuary, it was easy walking if a bit unremarkable. A lovely weeks walk, a bit warm, but a very well marked and maintained trail. We’ll be back for more soon!

Day 5 on the @southwestcoastpath.bsky.social took us by some outstanding beaches; at Wollacombe, Croyd and Staunton. We wanted to swim at all of them, but we needed to make it to the village of Braunton. An easier 20km day, but still warm.

Day 4 on the @southwestcoastpath.bsky.social from Watertown to Woolacombe. A 20 km #hike in the heat, but a northerly brought #wildfire smoke from Wales across the Bristol Channel. The wonderful #views continued.

Day 3 on the @southwestcoastpath.bsky.social brought expansive views and lovely vistas along wonderful old coastguard paths. It remained muggy and the climbs were hot work with heavy packs. 28km from Lynton the Watermouth Bay.

Day 2* on the @southwestcoastpath.bsky.social was Porlock to Lynton. 26km day in humid heat was a sweaty affair. Not convinced by the new route to Glenthorne beach - it seems to add more ascent - but mostly a very pleasant walk!

This is looking #north. If you head north from here, the next landmass that you’ll come across the the north eastern most point of Greenland. If you just happen to miss that then it’s over the arctic ice to Alaska!

An Lean-Charn is a small but steep hill, near #strabeg at the head of Loch Eriboll. Rough and patches, the climb started dry, but the showers arrived. Popped into Strabeg Bothy on the descent. A good #hike in N #Scotland

Cairngorms wildfire update: Police Scotland have declared a major incident. The village of Nethy Bridge is now being evacuated. Areas around Loch Morlich / Glenmore also remain closed.
