Trump vows to defeat "communism" in America by having the government give every US citizen $5,000. At this point, if you voted for the guy, you have to be asking yourself, "Is he a total idiot or am I?"

Seeing a pro-Trump acquaintance on FB reposting a country singer's rant against AI data centers feels like a turning point. Don't get me wrong, she's still a racist POS, but if the Left can effectively establish themselves as the party of AI regulation, they will win over a lot of voters.

It's amazing that the Right has turned Soros into the ultimate boogeyman for funding leftist causes (and by amazing I mean antisemitic), meanwhile the overwhelming majority of billionaires (and one trillionaire) are spending their money on propping up the presidency of another billionaire.
A WAPO graphic of the billionaires (and trillionaire) putting money into the midterms. There are 12 circles showing that 11 of the 12 megadonors in red, indicating they support the Right. The only blue circle is Soros.

The heading and subheading read:
Meet the megadonors pouring over $1.6 billion into the midterms

Billionaires and newly minted trillionaire Elon Musk make up the top individual donors.

Two headlines on the front page of the Washington Post today: * "The Pentagon, sinking billions into Iran war, quickly runs short on cash." * "1.5 million children lost food aid since last July, analysis says" I wonder if there's anything the US could have done differently to avoid this.
The front page of wapo.com with a headline about the Iran war and a map of U.S. deaths in the Iran War. The main headline reads:
"The Pentagon, sinking billions into Iran war, quickly runs short on cash."

In the corner, below the map, there is another headline that reads:
"1.5 million children lost food aid since last July, analysis says"

The Odyssey was fantastic, a film that truly earns the description "epic". Wonder if this is the year Matt Damon wins his second Oscar. Also, random, but Stephen Fry was at the same screening as me. Didn't get to say anything to him, but still cool to see him.

This pales in comparison to the 10000-word "review" of The Odyssey that spent about 500 words explaining why Helen couldn't be black because of a survey of racial preferences in sexual attraction. Somehow that negative review is included in the official Tomatometer score.

So much of the "strategy" of centrists Dems in my lifetime has been essentially trickle-down economics: If we don't rock the boat and occasionally try to regulate capitalism (but only a little bit), everyone will be better off. That turned out to be a lie, and the DSA is calling them out on it.

Just immense levels of looting. He’s starving our parks to redesign DC as his personal palace.
The dozens of pages of budgetary documentation show an $854 million, or
68 percent, decrease in spending on projects in park regions outside the Washington area in the first eight and a half months of fiscal year 2026, compared with the full prior fiscal year.
That includes a $235 million decrease in spending in Pacific West parks such as Yosemite, a $254 million decrease in the Intermountain Region parks such as Yellowstone, and a $33 million decrease in Alaska. During that same period, spending around Washington increased by about $100 million, not counting about $310 million in donations that the Park Service received from allies of the president, most of which is going to fund a new White House ballroom.

Can't emphasize enough that there were many of us saying in 2016 that the true harm of a Trump presidency was the lasting effects of him packing the Supreme Court. All other debates aside, this was the reason to oppose him. There's no coming back from it now.

I need a perfect metaphor for why the world is going to shit even though everyone agrees that the world is going to shit. No, that's too perfect.
Meanwhile, 49 percent of adults say they use AI chatbots like ChatGPT, which remains the most popular by a considerable margin, with a quarter saying they use the tools daily. That proportion is considerably higher than the 33 percent of American adults who said they used AI chatbots in 2024.

In other words, the tech’s widespread adoption isn’t helping its perception. A full 40 percent of respondents said they anticipate AI will have a negative impact on society, and 31 percent said it will impact them personally in a negative way, too.

This varies quite a bit by age. Gen Z adults, ages 18 to 29, were the most wary of AI, with 48 percent believing it’ll be negative for society. Yet they’re also the group that reported using AI the most, at 66 percent.
