and in addition to the deeply traumatic events of what led to abandonment, the flare ups and pain also affects your mood and outlook. i wonder if it's related to that shadowy entity in between the skies from when rudo fell. the blackened part of his skin seems to be so specific in their patterns.

zanka is "in charge", but it's gris who manages everyone and takes responsibility... it can be fun to think of characters as "found family" in fanon, but i'm also invested in how a character's class conditions and experiences can shape their outlook too! there's a lot to chew on!!

responsibility for rudo. sure, zanka was in charge as the jinki user, but the other supporters were mostly adults. i'm assuming gris is the oldest here? it just feels like another example of an adult not written to forget that the protagonist is a child.

so not only do the characters work together, but the power system itself kind of resists the crisis of over consumption which we witness in the sphere and irl... even tho this is kind of typical for shonen to have dialogue about 'protecting comrades', i really saw this moment as gris taking

i'm invested in the class analysis and material conditions between sphere and ground... anyway, i like that even though this is a shonen with a special boy with powers, the sense of danger and destitute conditions necessitates being a team player and being collaborative.

the ground gather in urban poor areas and EVERYWHERE seems to have varying levels of poverty... i also wonder if production/industrialization is explored in the future. it is clear that exploitation is necessary as we see traffickers try to take rudo early on!

This is part of what I'm referring to with many people demanding stories that reassure them they're a good person. They want the moral instruction because otherwise, rather than processing the reading experience, there's a thrum of "am I bad? am I bad? what if someone finds out I'm bad?"

stories about abuse are allowed to exist without reducing themselves to moral instruction. i think sometimes when people complain about the “romanticization” of abuse, what they're actually objecting to isn't necessarily the way abuse is being represented, but the fact that the representation doesn't provide them with constant moral reassurance. like, there is a difference between “this story frames abuse as desirable or inherently romantic” and “this story depicts abuse in an erotic/ambiguous/complicated way and doesn't repeatedly tell me that abuse is bad, therefore the depiction itself is irresponsible.”

it's kind of amazing that tags work here, i started a fresh twit account to follow doujinshi artists and decided to post the same things here (sketches, smut, self ship), but 0 engagement. tumblr is still my fave since people comment and reply, but wow... imagine a social media site that works...
