Since research has brought to light the fact that there is a biological basis for transgender individuals, via brain scans (Guillamon et al., 2013), and long ago established the fact of intersex people, legislation of this kind is both highly inappropriate and a breach of the basic right of an individual to correct errors in the records associated with their identity here in Aotearoa. It also ignores the fact of non-binary gender. To what end, aside from wilful ignorance leading a transphobic over-simplification of an incredibly complex issue, this legislation came into being, I don’t know, but it’s certainly not factually sound, and can only harm the individuals affected.”

Cis people getting gender affirming surgical care is really no different to trans people getting it. If your body develops in a way that conflicts with your gender, whether or not it matches your sex, it can cause dysphoria. Gender affirming care is the most humane and constructive care option.

The detaching of Māori from our public health sector in the Pae Ora bill is really worrying me. Please, if you consider yourself to be Tangata Tiriti, make a submission with respect to the clauses related to Māori partnership. Health outcomes for Māori can only be improved with these partnership committees in place and empowered, and they aren’t detrimental to Te Whatu Ora‘s operations.
There are 12 days left to have your say. Here is the wording of my own submission:
The very sub-optimal health incomes suffered by Māori can only be improved with strong input from Māori. This bill looks to effectively neuter the Māori partnership boards/committees within our public health system. This is disastrously in line with the "equality over equity" approach we've seen in other bills and policies put forward by this government, and my fear is that Te Tiriti is effectively being set aside in areas where it is more important than ever. Crippling the most powerful tool Māori have for working to improve health outcomes is not in line with the Crown's Tiriti obligations.
I recommend this bill either be rejected, or have stripped out the changes to the Māori partnership clauses.

I could only stomach the mayhem that is the Louvre for a few hours. What an amazing place! The couture exhibit was the main attraction for me, sowing objects d’art that have inspired the fashion world, and including an immense collection of tapestries, furniture, and other items.
