In the same way, once you've forgotten that we *decided* to let monopolists run amok, despite regulatory capture that would obviously follow as a consequence, you might well conclude that governments are part of the problem, and therefore can't be the solution.

We forget that things used to be better, and we forget how things were made better, and we forget how they got worse. Like vaccines, antitrust worked *too* well.

I have complicated feelings about the "we decided to let them" framing. On the one hand, *I* didn't decide anything. I wasn't even alive during the Reagan admin! On the other hand, if *we* let this happen then maybe *we* can stop it, so I can see how framing it that way could help motivate change.
