i've had a really long-term project to mix my interest in furry art with my autism for spaceflight stuff, and i remembered that i can just. draw it. lmao. meet atlas! she's a rocket that i have turned into a dog. expect more freaks like these. #SojFlight

A reference sheet for an anthropomorphic dog girl character, styled as a NASA document from the 70's. In the middle of the page are two drawings of her, one where she is labeled SM-65 Atlas, shown with a very excited and energetic expression and pose. She wears a gray letterman jacket with red accents, jean shorts, a pair of gray canvas sneakers, and a thick black collar with a red accent. Right of her is an older, future version of herself, labeled Atlas V. She's shown with much neater hair, standing confidently with a warm expression. She is wearing a burnt orange flannel, a gray bomber jacket adorned with patches, jeans, and hiking boots adorned with red and green accents. Left of her is a large paragraph of text describing her:

"Service life 1957-2026. She/her, Transfem, Pomeranian."

"Atlas Bossart Convair is a naïve extrovert finding work under NASA, flying as one of the most important launch vehicles in history. Carrying the first american into space, sending off the first satellites to Mars and Venus, and almost any mission you could name are under her belt.

She doesn't carry herself in a way that would tell you, though—She's the loudest, rowdiest girl you might ever meet, and you are not going home without her hugging you first.

She still flies regularly today, as a heavily upgraded and modified model. She's adapted to her position as a veteran in the spaceflight industry, now much more practical and storied with her age, and filling the role of a stable, reliable launch platform for scientific missions alongside Centaur. But no matter how much things change—part of her will always be that same starry-eyed dork from the 60's."

The remaining detail on the right is described in the replies.

images for alt text + acknowledging some of the inaccuracies on her, if you wanna be REALLY nerdy about this stuff.

A small drawing of an Atlas V rocket, with its iconic orange tank. "Atlas's flannel, in her modern form, is designed to represent the Common Core Booster tank used on all Atlas V models. It's designed to be simple and modular so it can be used on many different rockets and configurations. The color is how the tank looks when unpainted, with it very often flying with a simple gray coat of paint over this. This tank drops the lightweight balloon tank design used on previous models for a simpler integral-style tank used by most modern launch vehicles."

The final three drawings are a series of stupid doodles of her. The first is her grabbing the edge of some kind of container, drinking water out of it loudly, with faded text behind her saying "SCHLORP SCHLORP SCHLORP" repeating. The next is a draw-over of a fish-eye lens photo of a dog, where she is shown with an extremely big and stupid nose and a goofy expression. The final is her lying on her back with an arm in the air, saying "oh yes, love this boner life." in reference to a piece from @koidial.bsky.social.

AUTHOR'S NOTES: some parts here are not perfectly accurate, as they've been changed to be more readable. both the drawn Atlas-Agena for the skirt diagram and the Atlas V are not to scale, and have been shortened and changed in size. the Atlas-Agena staging diagram is also lacking plumes for its vernier engines, has some plumbing from the sustainer removed, and the turbopump exhaust is absent altogether.
