Eliza Orlins @elizaorlins.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I’ve been screaming for YEARS about not ever voluntarily giving your DNA to a database, and now 23andMe is going bankrupt so if you did this, you need to log in RIGHT NOW and delete your data, before the company declares bankruptcy! Your genetic records could end up in unknown hands. Do this NOW!! 44710163
TaraKF @kavanesq.bsky.social · 24/03/2025It's been a hobby-horse for me, as well. I have been told that I am mostly Irish, a little bit English, and a little bit German. That's good enough for me. 000
mare-p @mare-p.bsky.social · 25/03/2025I bought a kit, wanting to know about my ancestry but never sent it in due to privacy concerns.....reinforced today. 010
Blomster @cablomster.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Same. I would never trust a private, for profit, company with keeping my DNA data safe. 23andMe was on Oprah’s must have list at one point… 010
The Jolene @thejolene.bsky.social · 24/03/2025Doesn't matter if you delete it now. It's digitized, on someone's server, external hard drives, burned to DVDs, on collections of flash drives, backed up to cloud servers, redundant copies everywhere. It's probably been sold a dozen times in the last year alone. 040
A Lastname @bananasandwich13.bsky.social · 25/03/2025You can’t delete it off the servers- read the fine print people. Once you give it over, it’s no longer “your” dna; it’s theirs. This is why we never do things like this friends. 030
Kim_is__bored @kimisbored.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I also gave up my dna when I swabbed for donating bone marrow. Besides ancestry. Does that mean anything? 100
Kim_is__bored @kimisbored.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I gave up mine to Ancestry cause I didn’t know my dad’s side of the family. I didn’t known my background or nationality. 000
Sydfish @sydfish.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Did that when they first got breached. It's pretty easy. 010
Richard Catalano @fabiancat.bsky.social · 24/03/2025Thank you. I did not provide my DNA but had friends who have and warned them. 010
Oogie Boogeyman @oogaboogey.bsky.social · 24/03/2025Too late. They probably already handed it over (or sold it) to law enforcement or the government 000
Simulflow (Halloween version) @simulflow.bsky.social · 24/03/2025How do we know that they haven't been selling it to the highest bidder this whole time? 010
bluenote1866.bsky.social @bluenote1866.bsky.social · 24/03/2025Maybe an insurance conglomerate would be interested. 000
L'État, c'est moi @bouffanthairdo.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Btw “deleting” at most companies is simply breaking links to your data, not actually deleting it 060
deliarn.bsky.social @deliarn.bsky.social · 24/03/2025Will the people who have their DNA in there get notices? Probably not? 000
freegirl12.bsky.social @freegirl12.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I too completely refuse to give my DNA 020
witchymama23.bsky.social @witchymama23.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Omg I'm so grateful for my adhd for once. I signed up, got the kit, spit in the tube, then saw something shiny and never mailed it back. Neurospicy win! 000
Mathematically Gifted & Gay @justkeepiterating.bsky.social · 25/03/2025This is why I resist trends , but aim to observe … people rush with the money and they skip over best practices. I’m a big believer in moderation. I prefer Providence to Boston, Knoxville to Nashville … it just keeps happening. 010
Apple @hardciderblues.bsky.social · 25/03/2025That ship has sailed. Your DNA data is now up for sale to the highest bidder. Deleting an account does *not* delete the data. 010
🌊 Alchemist 🌊 @alchemist2000.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Good luck with that. Their server keeps crashing. 050
Ensign Expendable @vinewood-og.bsky.social · 24/03/2025"What do you mean I'm accused of murder?" "Well we found your DNA at the crime scene..." Everything is a scam.media.tenor.coma bald man in a black shirt is sitting on a blue couch with his arms outstretched .Alt: Comedian Bill Burr on Conan. 110
Brette O'Connell @csiwriter.bsky.social · 24/03/2025That really isn't going to matter much when the DNA results have probably been sold to another company and remain in the cloud. 140
Average @samedayshipping.bsky.social · 25/03/2025I hope they don't end up on signal in a group chat! *Rushes to log on and delete data* 040
louis8086.bsky.social @louis8086.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I hope it really can be deleted… you can’t hold a bankrupt company to account and I am sure someone sees this as an asset! 000
Auntie Fa @madamew.bsky.social · 25/03/2025There is no way to delete your data. You just get diverted to a page explaining their privacy policies. 010
Michael Shibley @shibblesnbits.bsky.social · 24/03/2025Completely forgot my partner and I did this back in 2016. Just deleted both our data sets. 000
Connie @captainconstance.bsky.social · 25/03/2025You and others honestly think you can delete your data? 010
Justine 🫘 @justinebayarea.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Same!!! I have a friend who did it and a 43yo maga dude found him and said he was his father. Now he wants to meet him, wants money, property, a car, etc. My friend has nothing much ad is on a small fixed income. The dude’s a nightmare. 000
1dae.bsky.social @1dae.bsky.social · 24/03/2025And, this is why I have never done anything with my DNA. 010
S. Melo🐸 #NoKings🚫👑 @jasmine29.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I never wanted to know where I came from😹so never hire their services😹 120
adrenalinearch.bsky.social @adrenalinearch.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I don’t even use facial recognition. That database is being compiled globally, heaviest in china but also Russia. All those cute little “free” avatars for metaverse games or emojis. They have your face digitally mapped. If your comments on a platform become a threat to someone…tracking easy. 020
frozenhustle.bsky.social @frozenhustle.bsky.social · 25/03/2025They probably kept the physical sample in case future developments meant they could extract even more biological information. 010
CJC <3 🇺🇦🩷💜💙🇺🇦 @castyman22205.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Tbh what could they do to them? Can’t think of anything bad. Like will they give them to china and then china will try to find me? Lmfao Not like it’s as bad as someone having your social security or something At least that is my view 000
Lïså Lōvê🪶👻🕷️🧙 @lisalove420.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I understand exactly what you're saying. But also, what about my ancestry can be used against me? Like, specifically what in my DNA could be used for nefarious purposes? And what nefarious purpose? I'd love to know. 370
Bill the Cat @billthecat71.bsky.social · 24/03/2025I said this so many times and people would get MAD at me 030
David V. Phillips @skydaver.bsky.social · 25/03/2025Wonder Bread could look at me, and say “Holy shit, that’s white!” I do have interest in my ancestry, but there are massive problems with genetic processes to determine such. I’m glad I never participated. 010
