I have tried an entry level DSG (meh), single-clutch robot (worst), 4EAT/5AT (old), TC-CVT(okay, but not a hybrid) and YES, I totally agree.
Not to mention EV mode, and a bit of gamification with “try to charge it back and drive as much as possible in EV mode”. Very clever design.
