Isidor @isidor.rs · 17/08/2026Meanwhile in the US, I'm shocked how little you need to know to pass the written test, and letting people do driving test on automatic is nonsense too. 390 0
Isidor @isidor.rs · 17/08/2026I drive automatic now since it's great in the city, but not knowing manual is like not understanding how a car actually works. IMO every driving test should be on manual, then you can choose automatic or manual after. 5180 0
Dmitry @forsberg.bsky.social · 17/08/2026People tend to think of technology as if it is a black box. Manufacturers are happy with it. Some people were shocked by the fact that I know how my car works and can repair it or diagnose it most of the time. And I had Subarus. Started to drive manual in Serbia, but learned how to 10 years ago. 110 0
David or Pedro @pembaucador.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Are all of the “new” drive assists turned off for the test? One to keep you in the lane, another to stop you from backing into something, blind spot alert…? The test driver’s car should have none of those. The test should be about the student’s ability to drive a car, not how to be a passenger. 110 0
SEN.千 @sen-1k.bsky.social · 17/08/2026With the proliferation of EVs and auto transmissions, I think requiring manual on tests is unnecessary. While I personally get irritated by automatic due to the inherent loss of fine control and selfishly thinking I know better than the software, lots of people use cars like just another appliance. 110 0
ysgradorn.bsky.social @ysgradorn.bsky.social · 17/08/2026I get it, but to me manual feels like having to wind up you alarm clock. Technology is such that it really is no longer necessary. Add that to engine management systems which are all software and the hybrids and electric vehicles that are auto anyway and it seems like manual has had its best days. 120 0
Steven Goddard @sgoddard.bsky.social · 17/08/2026In the UK, we have the choice, but if you pass your test in an automatic, then that is the only type of car you are allowed to drive. I agree that all tests should be taken in a manual, as it’s a more challenging test of control over the vehicle. 010 0
