I learned to drive manual two years ago, and licensing in Serbia, and Europe in general, is insane. First theory classes, then a test covering 1,600+ questions, half of which are useless, like how the motor on a three wheeled electric bike works or kW differences.

Meanwhile in the US, I'm shocked how little you need to know to pass the written test, and letting people do driving test on automatic is nonsense too.

Then driving classes and a test that teach set routes instead of real situational awareness. The whole thing takes 6 months to a year and costs a lot, I paid $1,200, and in Germany it's $3-4k.

Yup, here in Poland it’s normal for people to fail the exam like 4-5 times. I passed first try and it was like a huge exception. They also try to trick you into failing when doing test drive on the streets selecting a badly marked route or purposefully difficult parking spot.
