All those street fights with the Proud Boys and their ilk from 2015-2017 involved somebody Have We already forgot the wellspring of support for Luigi Mangino? Two assassination attempts on Trump? Kavanaugh? Minimize “random bloggers” all you want but that’s where the far right came from

And, a typical flaw in OPs thinking is thinking in binary terms: two things can both be problems but of unequal severity. That doesn’t mean the lesser threat should be treated as no threat. It gets missed in journalism and punditry all the time b/c it complicates the narrative but it’s still wrong

You are making an argument that the NYT is not, though. The NYT is letting right wing *elected* officials obfuscate their own direct role in fomenting violence by parroting their justification that mere criticism of Trump et al. is incitement.
