wrote this warmup back in july & still like it a decent amount

Mom-
do you remember my birth?
A Friday in April just before noon
A temperate spring day (though here 1 am guessing)
the most joyous of your life, you said you would have been happier without children.

Mom—
what was it like when I was small?
Before I was a person, I was your doll, your sweet pea, your daughter.
Now I am nothing
but a sawed-off branch from your family tree
gnarled and withered, leafless, unsightly.

Mom-tell me,
what do you do on that day in April?
It's been five years since last we spoke do you still think of that Friday in springtime?
I can no longer picture the shape of your smile.

Mom—
are you happy?
Do you remember to eat?
I can no longer picture the shape of your smile
or recollect the sound of your manic laughter.

though as per usual, bsky’s cropping job leaves much to be desired
