On this day in history in 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed, ending the Mexican-American War. Fueled by Manifest Destiny and U.S. efforts to expand westward after annexing Texas, the war culminated in the forced transfer of nearly half of Mexico’s territory.
