There's no one single unified guaranteed way to vet someone, and I can't pretend to have that answer for you. But in my experience, if you're in doubt, even a little - wait. Wait a bit longer. Generally speaking, the best defense against bad actors is time. Time and patience. Don't ever rush.

If you feel like you're being rushed or pushed, that's a red flag. If you feel like you're being directed to do something you don't want to do even beyond communicating you don't want that, that's a red flag. If someone abuses your trust in any way shape or form, that's a red flag.

If you feel like the person would benefit from you rushing, that's a red flag. If you hear suspicious things, that's a red flag. If you ever get that sinking gut feeling that gnaws at you and doesn't even have a reason for it but something just doesn't sit right? Listen to it. It's a red flag.
