You're left sitting on top of her. Your breath is slightly elevated. Above the ideal resting rate, but within acceptable parameters. The injury to your neck is severe. It will require medical attention. A biofoam applicator is withdrawn from your pocket and inserted into your neck. It'll hold.

You won't bleed to death. Not immediately, at least. If Mother has further use for you, She will see fit to repair you. If not, you will be discarded. That is your purpose. You extract yourself from the rebel corpse beneath you, stride over to where your helmet had fallen, then pick it up.

Something in you makes you pause to regard the corpse for a moment. Your biological processor flares. The corpse stirs *something* in you. But whatever it is isn't mission-relevant. You look away and don your helmet. It seals around your head with a hiss, and the heads-up-display flicks to life.
