"The Gulf Under Us" by Linda Alexander from Issue 14. Issue 14 can be read AND downloaded at www.sawpalm.org/past-issues.... #submissions #florida #literature #art #nonfiction #poetry #comics

Linda Alexander’s “The Gulf Under Us,” a painting of yellows, reds, blues, greens, and whites, creates a semi-abstracted version of the Florida shoreline. Reflections on the water are created by painting circles of dots, upward lines, and black and green strokes. The white paint on the bottom of the image has been scraped, revealing a brown, textural shore — almost like a rake has been combed through it. Underneath the painting reads, “‘THE GULF UNDER US’ BY LINDA ALEXANDER, SUBSCRIBE NOW, WWW.SAWPALM.ORG.”

The image is superimposed on a cream square. The background of the image and the square is a light, warm brown. Above the square and the painting’s accompanying text reads, “SAW PALM ISSUE 14.”
