New piece. A paper gown. A cardiologist with opinions I respect and ignore. And the particular experience of having your ass hang out of a hospital gown while someone half your age reviews your file. open.substack.com/pub/joadt/p/...

Another wonderful piece. It's deeply personal, but it touches so many.

Thank you Tom. I lost my husband to the big C when he was a vibrant 60 and when I hit the paragraph about Patricia absorbing, I broke down and cried. It was a release of something I could never explain but held onto for 14 years. Love to you and your family.

Very powerful and relatable. Respectfully, for those readers who may be gifting their loved ones with silence, please consider the greater gift is following advice. It's a bit easier for loved ones to reckon with the consequences if there's less i gotta be me and more let me help you help me.

I have had Lupus for 25 years. I am diagnosed with issues that are 3 pages long. I do what I want to do because I have suffered for so long that I am no longer trying to buy time. I am terminal, but have lived longer and survived several medical crises. It is your choice. Great writing.

This was powerful and moving, Tom. I have no words ... just a lot of feelings. Thank you for writing it.

Discovered your writing through someone I follow, a powerful piece that will stay with me. 'I would rather be myself for less time than be someone I don’t recognize for more'. Thank you.

"What I carry now is a lower, more chronic anger at the loss of authority. Over my own body." As a woman, I've been angry about that for DECADES

This really hit home with me, Tom. I'm 78 this year and have decided to concentrate on quality not quantity of life.🏝👵💙💛
