This is pretty interesting to me on a personal level, since one side of my dad's German background was largely communist organizers. The other was just the most lawless people on God's green earth, and they worked in breweries and then owned their own tavern.

Religious organizations can be great - just look at the incredible work historically Black churches have done, and continue to do. But you usually gotta build a multi-faith coalition to get anywhere, even in small towns like my dad's largely Catholic hometown. You gotta step outside the church!
