Fuck you #shopify - if you’re force retiring (basically BRICKING) a piece of equipment which when purchased in 2023 was an investment of $429, then you should at least let us trade in the old units for a discount. You know which stores are still using them based on sales. New unit w/ dock is $449.

Important update about your POS Go
We want to give you a heads-up about a change coming to your Shopify POS Go, with plenty of time to plan for it. As we invest in the next generation of mobile selling hardware, we're retiring the POS Go as a handheld device to focus our support on more powerful options built for the future of retail.
What's changing?
On May 26, 2027, the POS Go will no longer function as a mobile point of sale device. After that date, it will automatically switch into countertop mode. It will still work as a customer-facing payment terminal with a brandable checkout flow, when paired with a tablet, but your staff won't be able to carry it around the floor.
This does not impact the Shopify POS Terminal, which we will continue to support moving forward.
If mobile selling is part of how you run your store, you'll want a plan before that date. You have two great options:
Verifone Victa Mobile is Shopify's new purpose-built handheld for mobile selling, offered in partnership with Verifone, a global leader in point of sale hardware. It runs Shopify POS, accepts tap, chip, swipe, and digital wallets, and has a built-in barcode scanner. It can also be docked and used as a countertop payment terminal when paired with a tablet. It's the most direct replacement for POS Go - and a meaningful upgrade. Pricing:
$399 USD (device only) or $449 USD (device + dock). The Victa Mobile will be available soon, and we'll email you as soon as it's ready to order.
Tap to Pay on a mobile phone lets your staff run Shopify POS on a compatible iPhone or Android and accept contactless payments - no new hardware needed if you already have compatible phones. There are some limitations: no chip or swipe payments, barcode scanning is via phone camera and not a dedicated scanner, and there are transaction limits.
→ Compare your options and find the right fit

I used their POS when I’m at markets. It’s so fast and convenient to take payments - literally all cards, even ApplePay. I don’t currently need to have it connected to a tablet or anything else. Just a data or WiFi connection.
