Architect here. Yours is 1 way to see it. For me, AI data center development not only fucks up chipset & memory prices for consumer’s iPhones, but as the WSJ chart shows, they’re taking top $ bids from our ltd labor pool fucks up the math for constructing buildings *other than data centers*

Other externalities at play here of course, but the revelation for much of the AEC industry has been how AI data center development chips away at both mat’ls & labor pricing from all angles, like death from a thousand paper cuts.

It is a tricky issue and a fair point to raise. The route to lower construction & goods costs is paved with a collapse of the AI bubble and a recession. I think there’s a good chance there are good things on the other side of that, I’m just scared about how long we all end up in the ditch first.
