"Taking" Greenland is stupid and irrelevant. Sure territory is nice but we can simply do the following: 1) Ask to build a base (check!) 2) ask to build an even bigger base 3) ask to deploy even more SIGINT 4) pay for the extraction of minerals and pay up for exclusivity/MFN. This is cheaper.

A lot of the criticism of the USA ignores that we have the history of a continental imperial power (typically evil, shortsighted, self destructive) but transitioned to being a maritime power (mostly good after the Bengal Famine). Acting like a continental power is a fast track to the poor house.
