JW Marriott New Orleans: Location, Price, and What to Know Before Booking
The Short Version: If you want a hotel where you can park the car and forget it, the JW Marriott New Orleans delivers. It sits right on Canal Street, which means the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, and the riverfront are all a short stroll away. It is not the most boutique or quirky New Orleans stay, but it is clean, comfortable, and exceptionally well-located.

The Full Write-Up
Full transparency: I have not personally stayed at the JW Marriott New Orleans. This write-up is based on thorough research, guest reviews, and firsthand knowledge of the area. I am sharing what I have learned so you can decide if it fits your trip.
Location: The Real Selling Point
The JW Marriott New Orleans sits at 614 Canal Street, right where the French Quarter meets the Central Business District. That intersection matters more than it sounds. Canal Street is the dividing line between the tourist-heavy Quarter and the more business-oriented downtown side. Staying here puts you close to the action without being in the middle of it at 2 a.m.
Guest after guest mentions the same thing: you can walk just about everywhere. The hotel’s location scores a 9.8 for walkability, with over 250 places reachable on foot. Bourbon Street is about a three-minute walk. Jackson Square, Cafe Du Monde, and the riverfront are all within fifteen minutes at a casual pace. The St. Charles streetcar stop is right down the block if you want to head uptown.
If you are in town for a convention, the Morial Convention Center is a manageable walk or a very short rideshare. If you are here for Mardi Gras, the hotel’s Canal Street position gives you a front-row seat to the parades without fighting the crowds in the Quarter.
What the Rooms Are Like
The hotel has 494 rooms and 7 suites across 30 floors. Rooms were redesigned relatively recently, and the consensus from reviews is that they are clean, modern, and comfortable. Guests frequently mention the beds being extremely comfortable, the bathrooms being spacious with rainfall showerheads, and the rooms being quiet despite the central location.
Executive-level rooms come with access to a lounge that includes a pool table and complimentary breakfast. If you are a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member or higher, you get club lounge access as a perk.
One thing to note: the pool and fitness center are on the smaller side. Multiple guests have mentioned this. The pool is a rooftop saltwater pool with views of the French Quarter, which is lovely, but do not expect a resort-style swimming experience.
Dining On-Site
The hotel has two main dining options. Fogo de Chão is a Brazilian steakhouse open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Lobby Lounge serves cocktails, shareable plates, and entrees in a more casual setting.
Breakfast is not included for standard rates, but Bonvoy members often get complimentary breakfast as a welcome amenity. Continental breakfast runs about $15, and the full American breakfast is around $25.
There is also a coffee shop and convenience store on-site, which is handy for grabbing a quick snack or water before heading out for the day.
Parking and Practical Tips
Valet parking is $53 per night for overnight guests. That is on the higher side, even for downtown New Orleans. If you are driving in, factor that into your budget. There are self-park garages nearby that may be cheaper, but you lose the convenience of in-and-out privileges.
The driveway entrance is on Common Street, not Canal Street. This trips people up sometimes. If you are using a rideshare, set your pickup and drop-off to 611 Common Street.
Is the JW Marriott New Orleans Haunted?
No. The JW Marriott New Orleans is not a haunted hotel. It is a modern high-rise built in the late 20th century, and there are no ghost stories or paranormal legends attached to the property itself.
That said, New Orleans as a whole is one of the most haunted cities in America, and you will find ghost tours running near Canal Street every evening. The hotel even leans into the city’s spooky reputation with a Halloween package that includes cocktails and tickets to a haunted house attraction. But if you are specifically looking to sleep in a haunted room, this is not the place. You will need to look at places like the Bourbon Orleans Hotel or Le Pavillon for that experience.

Nearby: What to Do Within Walking Distance
Because the hotel is so central, you have a lot of options right outside the door.
The Sazerac House is about a five-minute walk away at 101 Magazine Street. It is a free, self-guided museum dedicated to the history of the Sazerac cocktail, and it includes three complimentary tastings for guests 21 and over. Even if you are not a big drinker, the building itself is beautiful and the history is genuinely interesting. It is a great low-commitment activity if you have an hour to kill before dinner.
The New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is another short walk, located at 514 Chartres Street in the French Quarter. It occupies the 1823 apothecary of Louis J. Dufilho Jr., the first licensed pharmacist in the United States. The collection includes over 10,000 artifacts from the 19th century, including old medicines, soda fountains, and medical tools. It is quirky, a little macabre, and very New Orleans. Guided tours are offered Thursday through Sunday at 10 a.m.
