Two ongoing court cases involving lawfully present immigrants—Mahmoud Khalil and Kilmar Abrego Garcia—who were detained under legally dubious circumstances, have emerged as flashpoints in a broader reckoning over America’s identity, the fate of its democracy, and the role of the Courts in our system of checks and balances.
