This kind of take made a Rolling Stone writer so mad they wrote a whole piece about it.

At this point, though, if someone contends they've never even heard of
"Choosin' Texas" or Langley, it may say more about the listener than the song.
Or, for that matter, what they want to project to the world. With incessant news coverage alongside chart and playlist presence, it's pretty difficult to still claim total ignorance on this one.
Perhaps there is a deeper reason why people say they haven't heard the song and feel the need to make it known: cultural cachet.

Until this week I had never heard of “Choosin’ Texas,” which I guess is now the most popular song in music history. That’s on me I suppose.

I heard it for the 1st time when i read the story last week. Since then, I've heard it in the fish store, at the grocery, on NPR, and in a clothing store. I wouldn't have registered it but for the story. Can I still claim that cultural cachet? Lol
