Gander Social @gandersocial.ca · 17/07/2026Thinking a lot about what "local" means online. So much organizing (especially in smaller communities and neighbourhoods) happens on platforms that weren’t built with Canadian communities, privacy, or laws in mind. What does "local" online look like to you... Belonging? Proximity? Geography? 6195

Pragmatical 🇨🇦 @allij.bsky.social · 18/07/2026So far, for me on Gander it’s “vibe”. Not terribly helpful, I know. But there’s a constant sense that I don’t need to translate American to Canadian or vice versa. I can just communicate in Canadian. 000
𝑳𝑶𝑺𝑻 (𝑳𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑶𝒇 𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒔) 🇨🇦 @lineofsighttravels.bsky.social · 17/07/2026When I look at photos, even on Gander, people will refer to locations by local names. Such as "Highway 17". I have a Highway 17 not to far from where I live. The problem is there are many across Canada. A location tag would help if people used it. 000
Barbara @calmspin.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Canadian local to me means interests I relate to and family/friends I am connected to geographically (which can be far away). In the short time I’ve been on Gander, I feel like I’ve moved to a new neighbourhood and been invited to a house party where I’m figuring out who to talk to or just go home. 000
