Walled gardens are the real issue. What WOULD work, and what should have been done is publishing the underlying data in open formats (and ideally with open APIs). 120 0
Jeremy Huggett @blkheathhopper.introspectivedigitalarchaeology.com · 03/11/2025Fair point. But in a number of these cases, data are already free to download via data.gov.uk and INSPIRE - e.g. the HES data portal at portal.historicenvironment.scot. The ADS and others also provide and/or are developing APIs - e.g. archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/blog/unlocking-data-apisarchaeologydataservice.ac.ukUnlocking Archaeological Data: Exploring New Ways to Access ADS Collections via APIs – Archaeology Data Service 110 0
g.j.hilton @hltn.bsky.social · 03/11/2025That's VERY interesting indeed, thank you. I am in general unenthused by AI but one of the (few) positives will hopefully be the ability to query machine readable data without technical skills so perhaps there is hope there that the interface shortcomings will only be blockers in the short term? 010 0
