well, we show that it can induce the cells in Nematostella, but not directly in Mnemiopsis. The double colored gut can be composed out the transplanted cells of the donor that would form anyway a gut together with the cells of the host that would do it. Maybe a situation that is not “dodgy”.

The cells of the flank of the Mnemiopsis gastrula do not give rise to the pharynx. I can see how incorrect transplantation too close to the existing pharynx precursors can induce a second pharynx by chance, if there's no lateral inhibition, but not in nearly 50% of the cases.
